Is this on your own personal wireless network? If so, it could be someone leeching off of your connection, and you should set up some encryption on your router to prevent that. It could also be a VMWare drive or a router that appears to be a server.

It appears to be local as it still shows when disconnected from my router. I am running XP via Parallels., but it does not connect to anything even when the VM is running.
Im at a loss to as what it is or where it came from... and it cant simply delete it like i thought i might be able to do!

It's your XP machine from Parallels.
It'll stick around for a while after the VM is off, but should disappear eventually.

I never used the "Shared" panel on my computer, so I just turned it off.

It's amazing how many computers you can sometimes see in the Shared panel. At school, I would HAVE to close it because everything below it was scrolled way down by all the other computers-almost all of 'em PCs too. (Love the PC icon in Shared, by the way.)
Generally, there's nothing to worry about, and as long as you don't share anything important (at least not for long) you'll be fine.

The only thing you'd be able to access on such a shared machine is resources SPECIFICALLY shared publicly. Since you have to go out of your way to do this, even with Windows, most of the time the information you get out of Shared is how many other computers are on the network.
