I am having no luck in sending info from a separate app, which collects data and can in theory forward the data via email, or ftp.

Apple Mail works fine in sending and receiving emails, using the same smtp and port settings however this app doesn't

I presume it something connected with network or sharing in system prefs help please.

Any log output in your Console app/system logs? No point in flying blind if you don't have to!

Why don't you post the log entries (if any) that are attributed to this app and we can help you make sense of them?

OK, it's not the iMac settings, I have successfully setup another email account whereby the app sends info ok, and is received ok, just need to recheck my other email isps for correct smtp settings, at least now I know it;s not dependent on my ISP settings.

Now then to get to grips with FTP !!!!!
