I am trying to link my macbook to my hp 6110 printer on my windows xp computer. I tried downloading bonjour, but bonjour does not detect any printers on the network. Any ideas of how to solve/get around this problem?

First question: have you explicitly shared the printer through the Windows Printers and Faxes control panel applet? If so, how'd you do it? (IP, printer name/computer name, etc.)

The share name is Printer5, I don't know how to find any other information you want.

It sounds like USB printer sharing, which doesn't really work cross platform in my experience. If your printer has ethernet, that's a better way to go.

So what would you judge as the most free way to network the printer?

The HP 6110 has an optional JetDirect print server. If yours has it, you'll have an Ethernet port somewhere on the printer. If it's there, just plug a cable between that port and an open port on your router. The only thing left after that is to find out what the printer's IP address is, and you can find out how to do that from the printer's manual.

Since it's an all-in-one, there may be other issues to deal with though. All-in-ones are notoriously hard to get to do anything but print over a network; it takes special drivers that aren't always available (read that "never been written").

Let us know whether the printer has an Ethernet port or not.
