Hi, I have a year old white macbook. Its been working fine, except all of a sudden whenever I wake the machine up from sleep and try to use the internet, I have to run Network Diagnostic first, otherwise it won't let me access the internet. The icon in the toolbar says that I have a connection, but when I go to system preferences, it says its connected, but that there is a self-assigned IP address. When I run network diagnostics, it asks for my WEP passkey (that it already knows and has been saved to my keychain) and then connects to the internet with no problem. All the other computers in the house and my iPod all connect fine and nothing has changed with the router, so I think it has to be my laptop. I have tried creating a new location and removing and re-adding the interface in the network section of the network panel of system preferences. This is driving me nuts, and any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

First try turning off WEP on your router (which you shouldn't be using; should be using WPA2) to take it out of the equation.

So you are connecting to the network on wake, you're just not getting a valid IP, right? What happens when you try to renew the DHCP lease in the TCP/IP preferences, instead of opening Network Diagnostics?
