Hello im new here and i have been reading some threads about this but im having a rly hard time being able to make this work. This is what i have.
I have a computer downstairs with the modem and a wired router.
I have a Ethernet from the router running upstairs to my Mac
I have it plugged in the mac with my internet sharing on
My ps3 and xbox can both find the connection that its putting out but it cant find the ip.
So i plugged the ethernet from my mac to the ps3 and got all the info that it was using from that
Plugged my ethernet cable back into my Imac and entered the info manually
It found the ip but cant connect to the internet it say its a DNS error.
I dont know what im doing wrong can someone please please help me out with this i will be very very grateful. Thank you in advance

Welcome to our forums!
The problem you're experiencing is that your Mac is acting as a router for the game machines, but it's not issuing an IP address. This is a configuration issue, but your setup is not the best way to do what you want. Instead of sharing your connection through your Mac, you should buy an inexpensive switch (<$20 if you look around) and connect the Mac and the game machines to the switch. A switch is trivial to hook up and will allow you to share the Ethernet line from your router, which will let the router assign IP addresses and everyone will be able to connect.
Again, welcome!

So there is no way to do it wirelessly? Because the way my room is set up my computer is on one side and the systems are on the other lol. I just didnt wanna have wires running throughout the whole room, and my dad refuses to put a wireless router in the house bc he feels ppl will hack into it....ive explained to him many times it wont happen if we put passwords and wut not but he wont listen.

You can do it wirelessly, but there are two major issues. First, sharing wirelessly with your Mac requires that you configure sharing as if your Mac was an actual wireless router, including assigning an IP address-but that will produce a problem called "double NAT." That's bad and can keep your game systems from connecting at all. There's also the requirement that your Mac be turned on to make this work, which is a waste of resources.
On the other hand you can use a very inexpensive switch and wires, stick them along the baseboard, and not have them very visible at all.
Your dad probably doesn't have the time to become a whiz at wireless networking, and rather than accept the risk, he's decided to not have a wireless network. That's an intelligent decision. It is actually fairly easy to set things up to have strong security, but it does take some effort and research; you can work on convincing him on this all you want, but it's his decision.
