i have not encountered any trouble with the AirPort on my macbook (2.13 GHz Intel, Mac OS X 10.5.8) yet ever since i moved it hasn't been able to "see" the network in my flat, the router (Dlink DIR-615) being in the next room. the pc's and nintendo wii can connect to the network though. "joining other network" and typing it in manually doesn't work either ( connection timeout). when i run the diagnostics then it can see the network but still i cannot connect, it says that either the password or the security type is wrong. when using the assistant to help get connected and manually typing in the network name it says that the password is incorrect. the network's name has a Danish letter æ, but when running the diagnostics instead of æ, there's Ê instead. i have tried all the letter possibilities but got no results. this is driving me crazy. thanks in advance for any help.

I’ve had issues with that too, when there are non-ASCII characters in the network name. My network name has a curly apostrophe (, as opposed to '), and I haven’t been able to get a PC to connect to it yet, though all OS X (or iPhone OS)-based units connect just fine.

I’m not nearly geeky enough to know the details of it all (someone else here will be, though), but it would appear that OS X using UTF-8 and Windows (still?) using ISO-8859-1 as the default encoding means they can’t connect properly. æ showing up as Ê is definitely a text encoding issue.

In short: rename your network and get rid of the æ, and you should be fine (or there’s something else wrong, too).

Og velkommen til, i øvrigt.

that's what i was thinking too. it's not me who owns the router though. i'll try to have it renamed it and see if it works.

it did help. in a way. the airport recognizes the network and seems to be able to connect, yet i still have no internet.
network preferences: a self-assigned IP address and therefore it may not be able to be connected
assistant: not able to establish the network.
adding the IP and the router address do not help either.
any suggestions ?
