I am finally glad to see a GUI forum! I always wanted to make a request for themes, but didn't want to do it in the Software forum. I would love to see a LCARs theme based on the Star Trek Interface. Is this possible? There was a couple of good Star Trek Schemes for Kal., but I have never seen a theme for OS 9 or OS X.
Thanks

Why don't you post some pictures of what you are talking about or draw up a mockup of what you think it should look like.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Thanks for posting these pictures. Yes bOOzo, the one from the Kal Archive is hideous, the mozilla theme is more the way it should be. Just an idea, I thought it would be cool to have a Star Trek theme for OS X. I mean if Gene is right about the future, it has to be a Mac running those computers right?? So we might as well get the look going now!! Again, thanks for posting the pictures godzookie2k & bOOzo.

hey all. I am an amatuer themer (not even half as good as Swiz or Max). I actually tried to make an LCARS theme a while back, but there are some fundamental problems with it.

1. OSX themes with solid black backgrounds just don't work, due to some styles of text not being able to be changed from black. Even the top themers will tell you that some of the black text is unchangable.

2. the size of window widgets is unchangeable (as far as I know), and LCARS uses elongated ovals as the buttons. Izawa was able to change the size of windows widgets for the Aluminex themes, but i remember reading something about this being dissabled after Jaguar.

In any event, I hope someone is successful in making a LCARS theme for OSX. Lord knows it cant be any worse than watching Nemesis (and I'm a Next Gen fan)

Omfg, I will pay anyone who has any interest in making a LCARS theme not to do it.

must. save. users. from. ugly. theme.

"That doesn't matter. He believes in you."

I like the simple vector like gui though, If OS X would have been like that minus the drop shadows, it would still look modern, and be fast at the same time.

Yep, you are right, it will not be possible to make it look good on OS X.

You can make an inverted LCARS theme though...

Unfortunately you can't get to close to a 'real' LCARS theme with out a bitch slapping from the Paramount Legal Dept.
A friend of mine did himself a StarTrek website (he is a huge nerdy type fan), he is a professional graphic & Multimedia designer (has been for ages, a real pro) so it was dead on. No stolen parts from Official sites, all his own work. This was back in the early Voyager days when the official Paramount site looked a real mess. A week after it went live he got a cease & desist (?SP) from Paramount. With a long list of copyright infringements listed on it.

Dam Paramount has more Copyrights on the Look and feel of a fantasy OS that Apple had/has on a real one.

Hehe..

It seems like this theme is not going to happen though, it's just not possible.

I am very interested in making the theme especially with the invert screen idea (that could actually work). Please email me for my home address and my demands.

I don't know about that! I thought the last movie was MUCH worse!

Everything else would look really stupid, though.
