Hello Folks,

Since I am new to this list, I' d like to ask where to get the possibility of theming IRIX Magic Desktop for the Mac OS X.

At least I would like to know where to get the flashy red Cursor Sgi machines used.

IMHO it could be an enrichment for the Mac OS X to get the IRIX Desktop on our machines .... :-)

I have already tried some work on my own, but I simply dont have any knowledge about theming on Mac OS X.

BUT : I have REALLY enjoyed the work of MAX & SWIZCORE ... :-)

The greatest Themes I ever seen ... :-)

Sorry for the mediocre english, but it got a little rusty over the last years ....

Happy to be here, at last ...

BTW: When I switch Themes, the only things which does not change are the finder path/view/back/ buttons ... :-( .... how can I fix this ..? Anyone an idea ... ?

Cheers, and a happy new year...

Martin

The theme problem is due to localization. This will be rectified with the coming of new resource based theme changers soon.

That IRIX theme could be done but without window borders in OSX it would look quite hacked up.

I work with Linux, SGI and OS X machines all the time. I have a question: why would you want to create a SGI theme for OS X? It's the ugliest operating system I've ever seen! (no offense intended)

Hehe ... no offense sensed ... :-)

However ... I really do love the look of the sgi OS (Irix). It is clean .. not that much obstrusive as the MAc OS X ... and it HAD a lot of OSX-Style Stuff, in the mid 90ies ...
(like Vector Icons), a fancy GUI with a solid UNIX underwear ... :-) )

Awright. at http://www.the-set.com/osxirix.jpg I have hacked down on a friends machine some widgets of the sgi system.

whattadaya think about it ???
Perhaps we get some Irix Feeling on the mac ... ???

Cheers,

Martin

(Runs for the hills)

You want that on OS X? Isn't that a little like painting a brand new Mercedes Benz Sedan pink with grass green polka dots, putting white wall tires on it, some curb feelers, a chain steering wheel, and a carbon fiber hood?

I just don't think Mac OS X was born to be Irix or any other x86 OS. System 7 is still better looking that Linux, Windows, and other x86 Unix.

No Offense Dude ...

But IRIX is no x86 OS ...
It is based on MIPS r4000- r14000 RISC CPUs
Therefore think before you speak ... You could offend a lot of old-aged mips fanatics ... :-)

They like intel/Miscrosh** even less then the apple-folk do ...

Consider intel a Volkswagen
Consider motorola a Benz E-Class
Consider mips a Benz S-Class
(Kinda a grandfather of a POWER 4 or a 970 in the server and high level computing league)

The Indigo Magic Desktop has a lot of things i would miss in the OSX ... like e.g. the scale wheels (lacking a better term for it) ...
If you'd work on a sgi ... you would get it ... that a 90ies Sgi machine is a 21st century mac ..

Hell ... they invented the multimedia computer ... :-)
Therefore ... we should adopt a theme ... in the deepest respect ... for a pioneer of multimedia/Visual computing, which sgi undoubtedly is.

I admit this is just a quick hack ... but I like the 80ies Bevel and Emboss Look ... somehow ..
It has its own charme ... and BTW ... it is not that much distracting, when working graphically....

Same difference, System 7 looks far better to me. But if you like it, cool.

Yeah ... looks cool .... 4 me ...

I'll be back .... :-)
when I have completed a design for the theme ...

It'll take me a while, however.
I realize that it'll be very difficult to create a cool design out of the widgets alone, which will not look like "a bad hack-up" ......

Well lets see.....

I'd love to have that theme ... so it looks like i have to do it ... :-)
