I spent about 8 hours putting this together (ok so I took a few breaks, but still I put a lot of work into it), I ported the toolbar icons from XP's IE over to OS X's IE. Right now I only created a toolbar for "icons only" preference, if I get many requests to create a "icons and text" preference...I might create one.

For those of you that use IE on a XP system, you'll know that XP's IE has a toolbar icon that makes the window fullscreen. Well I found this javascript over at IETR that resizes the window to cover the whole screen (doesn't cover the menubar though). I also found a javascript that lets you switch between windows (if you don't want to use "cmd + ~"). The magnifying glass can be configured to launch either IE's search engine or Sherlock or Watson.

I'll place it for download later today...anybody kind enough to host it? I might email it to the IETR site. I'd package it along with the IE file that needs to be modified; you'd just need to modify that file by entering your username where ever USERNAME appears (use TextEdit to modify it), place it in Home/Library/Preferences/Explorer (backup the original) and place the toolbar images folder in your documents folder.

Here's a preview pic:

Very nice. Too bad IE has been left in the dust by other browsers. Consider developing for Chimera in the future.

I don't mind if most people hate IE...I love IE, that's what I use. I'm sure if Chimera users want these toolbar icons...they can easily customize them to be used with Chimera and other browsers.

Hi Dace.
Hi all.
I'm Sergio Diaz, the guy behind IETR.
I'll be proud to feature and host your XP IE theme in my site, of course giving credit to you. Just send it to my mail at .Mac
I don't know what format your images have, but the better format is PNG-24 with transparent background (then I could be used by Classic and X users). Also I'm sure that you know that they are 4 buttons states that need different images.

I had worked on a XP theme too, but never finished it. Your theme are better and complete.
Now I'm working in a BeOS and Classic IE4.5 themes.

Another tip, with the IETR method, anyone can use the themes for Opera, Chimera and Mozilla. (Check the links)

If anyone make another IE theme I will feature it in my site.

To all that want to use IE themes in Chimera, just change the images format to .tiff and rename the images to match Chimera one (more info at Chimera link above)

Regards

Hola Sergio,

I saved them as gifs, I don't intend for these to be used in Mac OS 9....for 2 reasons:

1-There is no XP theme on OS 9
2-I don't think you can eliminate the stripes in OS 9 (I used Cyber Thief's theme to get rid of the stripes on OS X)

The back and foreward buttons have 3 states: enabled, active and disabled.
The others only have 2: enabled and active.

Thanks for your kind offer, I'll email them to you asap

Dace- Anyway to replace those stupid ugly grey '@' symbols with someone less annoying, maybe colorful as well to go with the theme better? Maybe a check mark or something.

Look pretty nice Dace. It seems that you like the Luna appearance, judging from your suggestions on the XP theme and the dock skins you made. I've actually never used Luna, but if I get it for VPC, I could update the Mac OS XP themes to be more accurate. I could also include your dock skins and perhaps this IE skin too, or links to them.

I'd have to find out where IE stores the titlebar and address bar @ sign...so if I find it, I'll replace it.

Thanks Max. Yeah I like the Luna appearance (so sue me) and I happen to have an XP system at home...that's where I got all the suggestions I send to you, like changing the tab pabe fill color.

How is this?:

It's hard to make it crisp and anti-aliased...the icon is 16x16 pixels. If anyone out there can make a nice, crisp, 16x16 pixel icon...send it over, I'd really appreciate it.

Well this can be used with XP Silver as well. It's for both Luna and Silver. And thanks, glad it makes you happy

A thought if you will...
As slick as BBX Mercury is, shouldn't there be a way to modify that IE to match that theme as well? If Excel/Word/P.Point can all pretty much match the theme selected in Duality/ThemeChanger why can't IE?

Dace what did it take to modify this browser? Illustrator? P-Shop?

I used Photoshop. Go to the IETR website to learn how to create your own IET icons.

The reason IE doesn't use a theme's appearance is because it's a carbon app that uses its own appearance as oppose to a cocoa app that generally uses the Extras.rsrc for it's appearance.

I see--basically whatever Carbon wants you to see that's it!
So closed minded of them.

I spent a while trying to figure out how to make the installation of this theme user friendly....and I think I came up with a pretty good solution. It just remains to be seen if I succeeded. So, try it out and let me know how it goes.

So where is everyone? Has anyone tried it yet? I would appreciate some feedback please

I'll release some XP icons soon, even though not many people care.

Hi Dace
Don't think you got my email, I just got a "mail failed to deliver" response.
What I said was basically that I've downloaded it, but I have not tried it yet. But that I can host it on my homepage.
I'm also working on an extreme update to Mac OS XP, and I'd be happy to include all your XP dock skins,
I'll try the icons on my ibook later.

Wait, what am I saying... What about an XP theme for Chimera?

(If only Safari had tabs I'd use it in a second!)
