i was looking at itunes skins over at resexcellence, and soon realised that they all looked like they were built over the top of the brushed metal.
i just want a plain, vanilla style itunes.
is it even possible?

Not as of yet, iTunes can only have a greyscale background...no one has figured out how to give it a coloured background.

The problem is that you can't remove the highlight. I think you can use a color texture for background, but it will still be overlayed with the highlight.

I was able to remove the highlight from the edges that makes the metal look beveled and also was able to change the background, the ONLY problem that remains is that it is still rounding the corners (even though I pasted in square ones) and the metal highlight across the whole window is still there... Working on this.

The highlight and rounding are done programmatically

The highlight in aqua is done by overlaying the brushed texture transparently over a fading grey background. The reason it's so tough to figure out how it works is that the grey background with the highlight is a pxm that is very long.... 800 pixels I think, but only one pixel high, so you can hardly see it... let alone edit it. Maybe to make iTunes look Aqua (shudder) you could find it and make it white. Then lay the stripes (double shudder) over it where the brushed texture now resides.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

That's true for most of Apple metal apps that don't follow the "click button to metal" rule... but iTunes seems to be different, there isn't a gradient #pxm in any of the editable graphics files. I looked in EVERY nook and cranny. No where to be found.

At the very least, a skinned minimized version...like how WiMP does it.

Audion is cool, but it's playlist setup isn't as good as iTunes. That's why I haven't registered it.

Too bad the SoundJam developers left to Apple then developed the new kind of playlist then. That was always the worst thing about SoundJam - crappy playlists.

iTunes solves the playlist issue and should be copied into a skinnable player with more options..

I wonder if Apple has thought about supporting skins for iTunes? And why wouldn't they want to support skins? Even Windows Media player on Windows has skins... Apple should try and compete a bit. Now that might be a good idea, iTunes and QuickTime all in one with skins... "iMedia" or something like that. hmmm I think I Just found my new dream app.

No not really apple hired the team that made soundjam, they don't own the app, I never tried soundjam, but I'm afraid it is as good as dead, they made a osx beta, but it only works when you set the date to two years back...
