Looks like we have a new theme switcher and it's made by Apple :-)

Izawa is using Apple's Installer app to install themes, optimize them, and even allows for custom installations.

Go figure :-)

Nasty.
I would rather use somthing like ThemeChanger so I know what is being altered, and I know that it's not doing anything untoward.
Using Apples Installer requires a giving huge degree of 'trust' to the theme and it's creator that it's not going to fuxor your Mac, it having full admin privilages and all.

I downloaded the DSX theme yesterday and noticed this. Decided not to install it though and settled for QuicksilverR theme.

i'm in my second week with osx and everything's running pretty well...so it seems time to create some havoc.

thinking about trying the dsx theme.
if i install this, how do i revert to the default theme if i want to/need to.

is there a way to do this with out having to do a major re-install?

and how stable are these themes in 10.2.4?

thanks in advance!

Good for Takashi Izawa! I've long considered doing something like this myself, only because it would allow the insertion of an end-user agreement in there as a deterrent to unauthorized ports (not that it would help much if at all). Looks like he's even sidestepped the ever-changing revolving theme-format game as well...

Really (really) bad idea if the themer in question didn't know what he was doing - but this guy's way ahead of the curve, I'd almost trust that he's doing it right by default.

Any brave souls yet?

This isnt the greatest idea. When I first began theme developing all of my themes were installed this way. People complained that it made switching between themes too complicated. Therefore I opted to follow the standard.

Ya some of the first OS X themes were like that... I didn't like it, and it was scary installing them, you didn't know if you'd be able to un-instal them if you wanted.

Well now there's Aqua Fix, plus he provides a restore theme. I tried the Maggra theme, works fine...no Quartz display though.

If you make a .dmg you can have a license agreement with it, just like Apple does with safari for example.

Not tried it, but might give it a go for the hell of it.

Just downloaded Themer 3 too, but haven't used it yet, as you have to revert to Aqua before you use it so that it can back everything up.

Right.. Aquafix at the ready....

Here goes nothing...

Bring on the DSX theme...

Well it didn't kill my mac, but i'm not sure I like the theme... It makes Safari look very evil.

Probably because I can't read any of the text in the top bar, bookbarks bar, or tabs, thus making browsing quite difficult.

Back to aqua and then I'll try Themer3.

If I was switching to a theme that I'd want to use for a long period of time the installer would be great, and I do prefer it having its own Aqua restore.

This is getting ridiculous. there should be 1 theme switch, and one format.

IMHO there is only one app that is usefull for theme changing at the moment, and that is ThemeChanger 0.5.

It's simple, and very effective.the

In the very beginning themes were distributed as packages.
