Try putting something in the trash. Then the icon will change. I have to do that everyday for it to go to the changed icon.

I have the same issue. I think it's an issue from CandyBar to the Icon rsrc file. Because if I replace the icon rsrc file the trash gets replaced fine.

The Trash icons (as well as the Finder icon) are located in /Mac OS X/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock/Contents/Resources. They are 128x128 png files. All you need to do is to back up the old ones and substitute your own 128x128 png files with the same name and restart the dock. The easiest way to write to this folder (as it is non writable to you) is using terminal and the "sudo mv" command.

I used to have this problem with the Finder icon. Try searching for "com.apple.dock.iconcache" and delete it. Now after logging out/in it should change icons.

When changing icons with CandyBar everything is working like a charm. No problems with the trash icon. My Dock gets restarted and voilá the new trash icon is there...

Three questions:
1) Where is the Icon rsrc file?
2) What would I replace it with?
3) And would you happen to have the file I need to replace it? Thanks.

I checked and the png Trash icon files are the Snow E.2 trash icons I chose. But my dock still shows the old trashcan.
This is strange because Candybar had switched everything out perfectly in the past. Then I decided to switch it out again and now the trashcan won't switch over to the new icon.
This problem started when I applied the iContainers, whereas in the past I drag-and-dropped each icon into Candybar. I have tried to drag in the Snow E.2 trash icons (full & empty) but it still won't show up in the dock. Hmmm...

Now I remeber I had this same problem. The way I fixed it was using ThemeChanger. I reapplied the Watercolor Aqua fix (comes with the watercolor theme package). That was when I was messing around with ThemeChanger. I like Duality 4 much better. But I do recall that this fixed same problem your having in my case.
