Hey Max, I sent you a PM. I modded Smoothstripes to have all blue widgets. Preview is attached. I was wondering if I could have your permission to distribute this? Or maybe you could include it as a variant in a future release? Anyway, here is the preview:

I also wanted to see if there is any interest in these forums. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Changed preview to png for Camino users

I can't imagine Max would be a-okay with this.

SmoothStripes Gloss from Max is still my favorite.

When I got started in theme development my favorites thus far were Sosumi and a "theme" called "Circular Blue Widgets". It definitely tightens up Aqua I think.

On the other hand I dont believe Max is interested in yet another SmoothStripes variation.

Well, I'm not really expecting Max to just use this as a variant. It was more of a little personal project to get familiar with Themepark, and make smoothstripes have blue widgets, which is something I've always wanted. Maybe he'll like the concept, and make his own version.

Looks nice. I used Circular Blue Widgets too, but I like non-aqua themes better now.

Does anyone have a link to this "Circular Blue Widges" theme? I think I may have seen it before, but I can't find it.

I LOVE it! I'm using SmoothStripes right now and BLUE is my favorite color. Was getting tired of the multi-colored widgets. Hope Max is ok with you distributing it. After all, these themes, esp. SmoothStripes came out of Apple's Aqua.

that looks very nice. however, i think it would be cool to release a plain old aqua theme with blue widgets, too.

Sure Max. Is it ok if I distribute it privately to people who ask? It has all the info on it, like "Created by Max. modded by phillryu" etc.

OK. I have a question since Max absolutely refused to allow distribution of this new modification. I don't want to start a flame war, but why is it OK for you (Max, for that matter any themer) to distribute themes based on Apple's Aqua resources (i.e. intellectual property) but its not OK for others to change your resources and do the same? After all, you are distributing for free, Apple spent years in their development of Aqua, and rightfully charge for it. I know this whole idea of intellectual property has been discussed elsewhere but I was curious as to why you won't allow him to distribute it even though he says in the about that it is made by Max and modified by him.

Because Max produces a certain level of quality in his themes and the only way to assure that his image is maintained is by him creating and approving the work to his spec. Sure, alot of the elements are Apple's but SmoothStripes goes hand in hand with Max. If the author of these blue widgets doesn't meet Max's standard guess who will receive the email about them not looking good or right.

Hope this doesnt sound preachy. And sorry Max for butting in but I just felt that this is where you, I or any other theme dev would be coming from on this point.

You are absolutetly right.

No offence phillryu, I like the idea of the blue buttons, but they are not that well done. For example, what you can't see in the screenshots is that if you hover over them, they just become brighter instead of showing the x-+. Also, the metal buttons color is not the same as in regular apps.

I will make a blue titlebar button variation myself, with cerdit to phillryu.

Doesn't sound preachy at all but it does prove the point I wanted to make. A lot of people are upset at Apple for not allowing themes. Now you see why. When the themes don't meet APPLE'S standards for Aqua, who will get the angry emails? Apple.
I don't want to get on a soap box here, but it just seems hypocritical to not allow the distribution of this modified theme while at the same time distributing themes using Aqua resources against Apple's will and without their consent.

Yes, the lack of x - + was intentional, and the difference in color between metal/aqua was not. If you did not plan on making your own version, I would have fixed that problem at least. Personally, x - + is kinda useless to me, so I just wanted to try it out without them. It was kinda experimental, but I guess it doesn't matter either way. Thanks max, for planning on creating this varient, and giving me some credit.

Well, yes and no. Usually if someone is applying a theme, they know that they are moving from an Apple designed GUI to a third party designer. If Apple did embrace themes and there was the possibility for a theme other than Aqua to be Apples then I can see this being a possibility. I do see your point though regardless.

I agree with you but think of it this way: If people post about their Mac crashing, or problems popping up, and don't mention it all started after installing a new theme, how does this look for Apple?

Personally, I like and use themes. In fact, I use Max's Smooth Stripe Glossy on my home iMac (great theme, btw Max). I am simply playing Devil's Advocate on the issue of someone else distributing a modification of his themes.

I have allowed SmoothStripes variations. I gave permission to someone who made a SS variation with gold elements (although I have not seen it posted anywhere).

The blue buttons are such a small change and if I can make "offical" blue buttons, with credit to Phill, isn't that just as good?

I agree with boozo on this one. Him giving you credit is the best you can really ask for.

Now, if you want to make your own stripeless version of Aqua with blue widgets, and release it under your name, by all means do so.

Damn you Phill...

You made me redo all the buttons for SmoothStripes! I've tinkered with these buttons so much now. When I started with the blue ones I realized that they would have a different style from the Graphite and Traffic ones, so I had to redo them too. And after that I had to redo the small and smallest ones + the toolbars and Metal versions..! And then add to that there is both sunken and floating buttons... Anyway I have all buttons except the floating done. I've also incorperated some other changes such as a sunken Apple menu. When it's done I'll release it as SmoothStripes 3.0.
I'm not sure if I will update the Classic themes though.. And I will need to make updates to the iFixes too.

But Anyway, here is how my version of the blue buttons look:

Ps. No negative comments accepted - I've worked too much on them to change them again

I can't allow any more color vatiations with the present format. Just adding the blue option doubled the amount of variations.

A candy tangerine orange variation on Aqua would be equally as good (although I would keep the red, yellow, and green window buttons and change the other widgets).

I really like the rhapsody orange that Max did, but an aqua variation like the above would be the bomb.

Are pressed-in toolbar widgets a possibility? Especially for the Back, Forward, and View buttons.

Yes they are all just images. All you have to do is replace them with whatever image(s) you desire with the appropriate effects.
