I realize this is probably a stupid question, but is there any way to change the utility folder icon into a custom icon. The copy paste method that works for most other folders does not work for this folder. Thanks

It does work, you just might be experiencing the hideous Finder bug in which the icon doesn't update. Try: Restarting finder, Logging in/out, or Rebooting.

No, it's an even worse finder bug where it's impossible to change the 'default' Utilities icon, even with 'Candy Bar'. There are 2 ways round this.
1. create a new folder replace this ones icon with whatever you want the 'Utilities' one to be. Move all the apps etc. from the existing 'Utilities' folder. Drag the default (now empty) Utilities folder to the trash and rename the new folder with all the utils in it 'Utilities'.
2. put a alias someware out of the way. put your custom icon on that, and put that in the dock.

this method doesn't really work, as after a restart you'll find the custom icon is gone. Also this will tend to screw up your permissions, so if you try it make certain you repair them.

Interesting to see this thread. I had been trying to do the same thing recently and wondered if the Utilities folder was just off-limits.
I finally decided to just use an alias, but isn't there a way to remove the alias arrow from a folder? I was sure I had seen discussion about an app or hack that would do it, but I can't find it now.

Curious about that myself--I'd love to remove that alias badge.

I have had this dilemna since the beginning.. before Candy bar and all.. That was the first thing I tried.. I never said anything because no one never said anything and I thought it had already been discussed or something like that and that no one would dare talk about it again.. hahaha.. funny... ;-)
