I wanted to start my own thread regarding the DVD Studio Pro 2 theme.
Here is my mock-up. I will be on vacation from Tuesday till 10 days later at which tiime I will begiin work on it. So please use this thread for feedback until I return.
Im not sure about the titlebar widgets, but I dont want to use Apples because they float. IF users want them then I will include them as a variant.

I'd like to put in a vote for a version with Apple's widgets. Also, I've been looking at those screens (while hacking together a poor man's version) and it seems that the scroll arrows are actually the same as the aqua scrolls but gray. Also I think the tabs are more square than the ones you have.
Looks great though and I can't wait 'til it's released. This is a theme that I'll actually probably use on a daily basis. Once again, great work Swiz.

I Love that, but my only complaint would be the widgets... could you make maybe Aqua ones but like a DARK DARK charcoal color? I dunno, that seems so pro and the widgets suck something nice out of the theme.
AWESOME job though.

I'd have to agree with Zimp the Pimp and go with rounded edges as well. Good looking theme!

Hello ...Thanx a lot for releasing the final cut theme ... It worked fine ...
As far as I can see ... this DVD theme promises to get even better ...
Everyone searching for a theme which does not distract as much as aqua ... and is not as bright ... must simply get this one ...
I will wait patiently and hope the best for it ..
The Mockup looks great ...
Cheers,
Martin

The theme looks awesome, but one question...is this the official copy of Apples UI? Because the official one looked a bit more purple.

Well the only difference between this version and the Apple version is that Apples uses rounded push buttons, normal floating style though newly colored widgets and normal unrecessed radio and check boxes. I think I did round the tabs a little too much too.
So, I will, with this theme(as with SS Final Cut) create an Apple exact copy and then my own version which will firstly start with new titlebar widgets but like I said probably not exactly like those in this screenshot. A little more refined.
Sandsl: Are you saying that this mix of floating and recessed elements looks cohesive?

This is quite SwizCool!
I'd like to see the window widgets match the Aqua scrolls, but sunken and maybe the Window Bar a solid rather than striped.
But this is pretty tight!
Aqua meets BBMX = perfect fusion.

PS... for the brushed, maybe leave it metal but give it just a bit of a blue hue?

Ok, well thats my plan. One exactly like Apples and probably two other variants. One to reflect exactly what I want and one other to try to fulfill the user requests which are most expressed.
The screenie posted right now is the current look of my preference but it is still undergoing refinements too. So just keep the feedback coming.

I fixed the tab roundedness in the original screenshot above. Thats what happens when I work from oversize screenshots and forget to compensate the reduction.

Very nice!
My only suggestion, as someone has mentioned, is to make Aqua-like widgets, but then make them recessed.

This kicks some serious arse. I'll definitely be using the version you're building from scratch, as I'm a stickler for consistency (as anyone who reads my posts can attest!) and I love the way your version comes together. Keep up the good work, please!

The tabs look great now. I agree with sandsl, I'd also like an exact copy of Apples UI.
I also have a suggestion though I'm unsure if Apple carried this behavior to DVD studio pro. In Final Cut Pro if you mouse over the titlebar widgets they turn from gray/graphite to colored (red, yellow, green, without the x - +), like utility windows.
IMHO, i think this implementation is more elegant than just the standard x - +. What do you think?

Where'd you get it? The link to StudioPro is for the Final Cut theme... is this an error or is it not out yet?

If the theme ends up anything like your mockup, I will be very happy! Looks really nice so far. This is a good look - its professional, but still fun and not too boring. The progress bar reminds me of windows though.
Have a good time on vacation!

WOW.
What i'd like to see...
- rounded recessed seems to be a look they WANT, since rounded non-recessed which is GUI standard still pops up in the screenshots. sounds like shoddy program, but hell, i'd say that it means that they wanted recessed buttons/elements.
- a better titlebar. sorry apple. this one sucks.
even aqua style with this color scheme 'd work for me. aqua extreme style.

Thinking more along these lines?
I like the darker ones because of the lack of contrast throughout the rest of the theme.

You're crazy!
All joking aside, I think the purpose of a Pro theme is to remove any color that might distract the user for color correction purposes.

i like the recessed widgets better. also i'm not too keen on apple's scrollbars. i'd like them less jellybean like i guess. my two main problems with aqua are the way the scrollbars and widgets are so rounded. and its damned lack of window borders. damn you NeXT! damn you OS X!!
been an X user since public beta, but i'm still waiting for aqua to go away.

It's not bad but I'd prefer you to keep the consistency. The current widgets are kinda out of the blue.
Maybe you could use the recessed Radio Box as a widgets instead?
Other than that, hurry up and release this theme!

The Check Box needs to be obviously different than the radio buttons.... did you make them round?
Not saying it has to be square... just obviously different... I would keep them square.
When using forms, etc this will be too confusing.

It's just a theme that I started for my own use. It's not finished and I stopped working on it since Swiz here was nice enough to start development on one (I'll leave the theme development and distribution to the veterans).
Sorry, I can't distribute it (and wouldn't distribute it in its current state) since it uses widgets borrowed from Max's smoothstripes. If Swiz didn't start his version I probably would have finished it and tried to get the necessary permission to distribute.

I like it, very nice. However, the widgets look out of place and even tho they balance with the scrollbar, my first impression is you forgot to do the scroll bar.
I don't really care for pinstripes and I think the non active tab style would make a cool title bar and menu bar giving a nice soft contrast to the main window.
I'd like to see what the widgets would look, like if they were the scrollbar arrows, they are nice and sweet. Also, they look silly as all the same dark aqua blue/grey. Also, the entire theme is generally a flat style but then you bust out with the bubbly thick aqua widgets/scroolbar, I think that's why they don't work, because they are completely different.
Looking foiward to the progress on this one. A very smooth professional aqua pro version of sorts.

It's that graphite/aqua scroll bar that throughs it off... It's the only real aqua part of the theme and it looks a bit strange. Not that it's totaly bad... but it's just a bit out of place.

Swiz--My ¢0.13...
A small suggestion, make the scroll bar itself a non-Aqua component. A solid grey with some small grab-able parts on it should work...(if that makes any sense--that is the only wayI can describe it.)
Otherwise--I still cant wait until this is ready. I still love those progress bars. They rule!
