I would really like to see someone tackle a Aluminium Mica powerbook look theme.
I did hear some place on the web that it is not that easy to get a Mica look consistant throught a theme because of streatching and tilling of the ppat's?

I think that BBX's new theme (coming out soon?) might be what you are looking for. He mentioned a look comparable to the new alumabooks.

My upcoming BBX MIRAI theme is indeed 100% visually compatible with the Aluminum powerbooks... everything from the beveling to the ultrarealistic metallic surface effects. I'm hoping to have a proper full-screen preview together very soon - but the way I work has always been very secretive until things are nearly 100%, so you'll just have to be patient in the meantime. Trust me, if you're into the minimalist futuristic metal thing, MIRAI will definitely fit the bill

Damn it BBX, you're as bad as the OmniGroup employees with their little OmniWeb 5.0 teaser posts

Last week you said it was done except for some finishing touches like make overs for apps, between the bunch of you I'm going to start losing my hair...

Guess Izwa's new futuristic theme will have to hold me over but it's not out yet either...

It's not easy being a GUI connoisseur.

[innocent question]Who did BBX Mercury again? I thought it was Max. Or is BBX studio Max? [/innocent question]

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

BBX studio made the OS 9 one, and Max ported it for OS X.

bbxstudio is Billy Bart
bOOzo is Max Rudberg

And like someone had said, Billy did the OS9 theme of BBX Mercury and Max port over into OSX.

Hmm - well, considering I've never started or created a single thread about it and anything that I have said about it has pretty much been elusive responses to speculative threads started by other people (like this one here), I dunno if overhype is really an accurate description necessarily...

BBX Mercury was my last big OS9 makeover kit (2 Kaleidoscope schemes, 2 Audion Skins, hundreds of icons, desktops, original alert sounds, A-dock and Dragthing skins, etc)... BBX Mercury X is a remix of one of the Kaleidoschome schemes executed by Max Rudberg for OSX.

I've always done massive 'kit' releases rather than single themes/schemes, which is why I'm lucky to get maybe one out a year when things are rolling (if I'm lucky), and also why this new one is taking so long (I knew OS9 inside and out, with OSX I'm learning as I go).

and you're probably still not risking giving us an "approximative estimation of a theorical preliminary" release date right?

MIRAIKANE baby, yeah!!!

BBX Platinum? Is that one of the OS 9 schemes, or is it available for X?

Anyway, even though I have an iBook, I can't wait for this Al theme... Billy's stuff is excellent.

I wish I had not asked for this Aluminium Mica powerbook look theme, it has caused bbxstudio - Billy Bart so much flack, Please give him a break and he might be able to get his themes out if you stop harrasing him. His Kaliedoscope themes are brilliant! some of the best ever made.

So is MIRAI due out by 2004, and the one after by 2006? jk, it's just seems like we've been waiting for this one forever, I hope it's not too much longer.

Bah The first anybody heard of it was Christmas - hasn't been that long... Besides, you guys have been spoiled by these guys who whip out a theme a month - they're probably young single guys with a lot of spare time (I used to be like that) - me, I just turned 33, I'm married with a baby a mere 8 weeks away and I work a good 80 hours a week...

You can rely on me to release polished freaky Mac interfaces from here until I'm old and dead - but you generally have to wait until they're fully cooked, and there's generally some time between releases.

After BBX MIRAI (it's still Miraikane in Japanese - yup, it's a bilingual thing), comes BBX UTOPIA (the Japanese will be 'future dream' and the logo emblem itself is the Japanese glyph for dream) - futuristic minimalist white plastic (looks like imperial stormtrooper armor) with some wierd future-fascist/genetic-sequencing undertones... but you'll be able to turn that stuff off, it'll be limited to backgrounds and extras. When I tell people it's white they say 'like Milk', but Max and I have very different styles and it doesn't look anything like Milk - it looks like Mirai rendered in white plastic instead of metal.

I'll just fly through Utopia one once I get this pain-in-the-ass metal one out of the way... the metal effect in Mirai requires a complex multilayer sandwich for any given element - looks sweet but man is it ever time-consuming... a single tweak can cascade across the entire theme. Driving me mad...

That sounds incredible... I can't wait! I'm currently using Milk (with my own subtle tweaks) on my iBook and love it like a brother, but it's always nice to have options. Especially kick-ass options.

Where do you get this stuff? Your descriptions of your themes are what causes the hype. Do you work for a marketing team?

Great work, BTW, can't wait for MIRAI or UTOPIA.

Which BBX are we talking about? There were 2 for OS9 (Mercury and Platinum). My previews are always busy because I load absolutely everything in there, but I always thought my stuff (when used as intended) was fairly clean and minimalistic... just curious what you found too busy (I'm always open to criticism, I'm my own worst critic).

If I were to show a screenshot of the MIRAI theme by itself, most people would say it's kind of boring, because although I've been working towards slick and futuristic, I've strived to make this one tight and invisible... it's the 'toys' like logos, icons, MP3 skins and desktops that will really drive the overall trip. That's a big part of the reason why I'm holding off on previews until the bell's and whistles are totally fleshed out...

I end-up making my own desktops most of the time, but I look forward to you're theme package. There's going to be an Audion face then? And I always am looking for good icon sets, right now the only one I like is SNOW.E 2.

That's the problem with preview... they always look like a pile of every imaginable garbage all thrown into one square. I hope this one isn't too boring and minimalistic. I love a little eye candy!
