Alright, Ive been having major problems getting themes to work on my machine. I posted all about it here http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...id=146756&
But, the only advice was to not install the Bootx file. Well, back then I tried that and it didnt work so I gave up. Yesterday, I got brave and decided to go for it again. I installed a new and updated theme (said it was compatible with 10.2.5) and made sure the BootX file was not being replaced. Upon restart, I got the blinking question mark. AHHHH!!!! This is the 5th time on this machine this has happnened. So far the only thing I've found to remedy the problem is to do a complete reinstall. I dont want to do that again (5th time). I installed Aqua Fix before I restarted so I was hoping that I could restore aqua without the GUI running. After reading the Aqua Fix manual, it appears I have to start up in single user mode (command-s). Well, since I cant get past the question mark of doom and destruction, I cant login via single user mode. Does anyone have any suggestions besides rebuilding my entire system? I know theming has been working for others who own one of the new machines. Mine is the dual 1.25 (newest revision). I'd really appreciate any help as I am up against a deadline and cannot access any of my files.
Thanks

Use another machine and replace everything from the theme you installed w/ aqua.

Well, that was kind of what I was asking about. I wasnt sure how to log into the dead computer while it was dead. I ended up just biting the bullet and reinstalling....again. Arg arg arg. I just finished. I still would like to get themes going, I wonder what the trick is.
Oh well.
Thanks for your response.

If your getting a question mark on start up there is no way to access the command line because its not even finding your OS.. What I would do is find a copy of the original aqua stuff and boot off an OS 9 CD and put the original stuff in where it belongs.

PS: This is why apple should just embrace themes. Not everyone is going to like aqua and not everyone is going to like it for 4 or some odd years now.

The problem my machine is having is in that it only boots into OS X. So, I'm thinking that the ROM or whatever its called is looking for an unmodified system folder to boot. When it doesnt find one, it thinks there is no system. Booting into OS 9, off the CD or any other way, will not work. And, I'm installing the themes with ThemeChanger. The odd thing is, I've heard people with the newer macines (like mine) say that they've installed themes just fine.
