QuickTime seems to have AAC support only which probably didn't deem 'interface worthy'.

iFix works for 6.2. Tested it myself.

One thing I'd like to know from Max is how he changed these resources. I opened them up in ThemePark and they are nowhere to be found, seemingly.

He opened them in ResEdit maybe? ThemePark doesn't cover all the resources only the ones that themes depend on.

The QuickTime Player interface resources are in a "PNGf" (or similar) resource. Basically you need to copy the data out of that resource, paste it in a file as binary, change the extension to ".png" and you can edit it with Photoshop or whatever you want. I used Resorcerer for the copy/paste operation, you'll probably want to find a less expensive solution.

Yes, this is the exact same way I used - thanks for saving me the explanation

I see...could you be a little more specific?

Where is this PNGf resource located? Can you use the Terminal for copy/paste in binary format?

I have HexEdit, and can open up the Quicktime Player resources inside the MacOS folder (I guess in hexidecimal format). But, don't know where to go from there.

Those resources are inside the Localized.rsrc.

Easiest way to edit them is with a resource editor like Resorcerer or ResEdit in classic.

Then you open up one of the resources inside the PNGf category and save it as a standalone file and open that in Photoshop. When you've made your changes you save it and copy it back into the localized.rsrc.

And now that 6.3 still doesn't fix this UI flaw.

Why is it a flaw? It is what they want it to be. They'll probably fix it with the next version. Maybe we'll get a new version in Panther, and it will be updated.

It might make the cross-platformness easier to cope with, not sure.

I suspect that the reason that Quicktime uses its own proprietary appearance is that the Quicktime windows are actually completely skinnable (as in, you could make your QT windows round if you wanted to). Apple wouldn't have been able to implement this if they'd used standard metal windows.

Bingo!!!!! I had completely forgot about this feature (100% useless since the mask can only be 1bit (like a gif), hello jagged corners). There is no way Apple could use the regular OS based metal skin. So QT can never have regular metal widgets.

well, I think it could have the standard window when not skinned, and switch to a skinned window when available....

Yes, at least they should update the x-+ buttons to be sunken.. That is possible without changing anything except the graphic resources.

Just a quick note to mention that current development builds of ThemePark now support TIFF and PNGf resources, allowing you to use it to skin QuickTime.

I'm guessing 6.5 or whatever comes with Panther will have the new flat sunken look.
