My girlfriend really wants her computer to have a "pink" feeling. I did a search on the forums already, and only found the strawberry theme. She wants a lighter pink, but I cannot seem to find anything. Anyone know of any girly pink themes?
Thanks,

Yeah, the wife has this Hello Kitty freak going on (we even have a funky HK mag steering wheel cover in the car and she's been hunting for more HK auto accessories to no avail)... she's asked me to dress up her desktop with Hello Kitty as well... I think an HK theme would be immensely popular but I just can't bring myself to do it personally. Anybody seen any high-quality HK icons for OSX anywhere?

wigglywoo, thanks for the link to the icons. Those will go nicely with her somewhat standard pink file and drive icons.
bbxstudio, I am not necessarily looking for a HK theme, although that would go great with her HK optical mouse. I think just a plain pink one would do the trick. I am kind of affraid that with all the different tones and shades of pink won't match!
Anyone else want to conquer this problem?

Unfortunately you can't have it, it's just a mock up But you could ask Max to make it....or maybe I could modify Milk and see if Max will agree to let me release it, most likely Max will want to modify it himself.

I thought all the blue themes were scary! I hate to be critical after all I've been thru, but WOW! Why not just go all the way and make a pink and powder blue theme and get it over with?

That mockup looks like crap IMHO. I don't want to make it, and I would not allow any one else either.. If you want a pink theme - do it properly. I think it's a little bit annoying that each time someone makes a themes, people instantly want color variations. Milk is ment to be white, nothing else. Sorry.

i like the pink milk theme hehe if i used themes i'd prolly use that for a bit. But I could easily make it myself seen as you could just hue/sat shift milk till it looked nice pink. Of course regular milk is lovely too I'd be using that right now if i used themes, not sick of aqua yet though

That's funny...I bet apple said the same sort thing about AQUA...
I still don't understand how you have the right to not ALLOW anyone else to modify your MODIFICATION of an Apple theme.
You didn't start from scratch I bet...you used apples AQUA theme...

Max, can you please make a pink variation of Aqua Extreme, BBX Mercury X, Brushed, Classic Platinum, Mac OS XP, Milk, Rhapsodized, SmoothStripes and QNX?
(end humour here)
Thanks!!!

(( there WAS a long-winded angry message here but it was way too inflammatory to be allowed to exist ))
Basic idea: Themers by necessity MUST use Aqua's skeleton as a template (just as any theme for any operating system uses the original UI as a template)... but every pixel in Milk is 100% original Max - and therefore he should really be the one to decide where it goes from here. Milk's appearance isn't just a simple modification of Aqua, it's original art pasted (by necessity) into Aqua's framework.
It's frustrating to themers every time enthusiastic theme users say 'screw permissions - I want it at any cost' - take the time to do something as original as Milk and you'd feel very different about the subject. Be nice to your themers and they'll be nice to you

I still don't understand how you have the right to not ALLOW anyone else to modify your MODIFICATION of an Apple theme.
It's simple, it IS his original work, it IS his right as the creator and it IS only right that you and everyone else repect that.
We've already lost several icon gods due to copy issues and modification complaints... if you go around releasing color variations of other peoples hard work, #1, people aren't going to respect you because you didn't respect the authors wishes and #2, you MAY piss off the author to the point where they hang up the towel and do something else.
Please just respect Max's wishes not to Pink over Milk and make your own pink theme from scratch. I know some of you have the talent to do it.

Thanks bbx and Mac Guru, you took the words out of my mouth.
Even if it's just a hue shift, it's (fortunately?) still is very time consuming to make.

If only that were true...
It is NOT his original work.
It has elements of aqua in it!
bOOzo did you use ANY part of aqua?
Did you borrow ANYTHING?
YES!
(try telling apple legal that it is your ORIGINAL work)
He did not make everything from scratch.
My point is this...
Don't you think it is a little silly to not even let someone adapt your own theme if you are not willing to do it yourself?
Why not let someone do it?
What harm will come to you?
P.S. for the record I have no intentions of making a pink version of MILK....

I think some people really take for granted that someone is willing to make themes and share them. At some point you got to say no to the variations. Another thing to remember is it's futile to try to please everyone.
I myself have been thinking of making a pink theme for a friend of mine who wants a nice simple theme and she loves pink but that has to wait until I'm done with the stuff I'm presently working on.

How incredibly hypocritical can one be? You take apple's patented GUI resource files, alter them to look like gooey white substance.. supposedly milk.., and then claim ownership? Sure, you spent some time alterting them, but you still don't own them. Just like when you take your car to the mechanic and they alter it to your will.. they don't own your vehicle. Give credit to the true artists at apple and stop being a bitchy little baby.

*sigh*
I wonder if anyone of you have actually tried Milk?
The only 'aqua' about it is the proportions, because they can't be changed.
Make your own theme, see how much time it takes, and then see if you are willing to let other people change the hue and call it theirs.
This discussion is pretty useless anyway, since no one has actually done that hue variation and no one is willing to either. It's was a bad idea by Dace to just thow out a mockup like that.

I think what people aren't understanding is that Max owns the images he created within the theme called Milk, and any other theme he made for that matter. Since you are toying with the idea of color shifting his original images to pink and then distributing them without his permission, that is where you are confused. Max said he doesn't want you to do this, so you should respect his decision. Make your own images in a theme if you want a pink GUI. Or just color shift Aqua if you are too lazy. But, color shifting a theme isn't easy and will consume much of your time for at least a week, if not many weeks. And that's after you have learned what is what inside the resources.

What he is saying is, you cannot make it and hand it out. He wont make it and hand it out. He wont let you make it and let him hand it out.
You can however modify it and use it for your own personal use. And not hand it out.

Since when could anyone copyright or lay claim to the actual dimensions of images? So some of you actually think Max doesn't own his images because of proportions, even though everything made is from scratch? The first person to paint on an 8x10 canvas doesn't own every 8x10 painting, if you get my drift. He owns the images, you don't; it's only right you respect his decisions on what to do with them.
OK, I think the horse is dead, so we can all go to bed now.

Why not let someone do it?
What harm will come to you?
What harm would it do? For one, if you were to create varient but unknowingly tweek something that makes the theme unstable, then Max gets all the complaints because it is a Milk variation and people jump on the first person that they think of.
Max doesn't want or need the emails that would ensue from an unsuported theme variation.
So with that, just forget this idea of a pink Milk variation, and make something ORIGINAL.
Oh and if it's such an issue with folks here, try to do it without using any of Apple's Aqua elements

If Max says no and that's his decision for whatever reasons then just make it yourself. Damn.. How hard can it be, especially if it's for your girl.
Surely U can take the time for figuring out. Plus she'll love U even more for it. ;-)
If U're a busy lasy man then that's another story.
But I still think if for example Dace was to offer to do one, why would Max refuse ? Dace does very nice themes himself. In the end it's all free themes for the taking. There would B a Max's Milk and a Dace's "Pink Max Milk". Big deal. !!!
It's like in the music world.. Any artist can re release anyones song to his or her liking and re release it in whatever genre without the original artist's consent.
then again the original artist still owns all the publishing so in effect gets all the publishing money... ;-)

If someone had actually made a finished pink Milk theme, and they came to me asking for permission, I would have had no problems with it. Just as long as I was given credit.
But this is not the case here. Dace throws out a quick hue changed image of Milk, and then people finds out that it does not actually exsist - who are they going to ask to make it? - Me.
If Dace would have emailed me with the same image asking if he could make a Pink variation of the Milk theme, and give credit to me for the original work, that would have been fine.
But now he only caused a demand for a theme that does not exsist and that I'm not willing to make.
I still think that a Pink theme, if somone wants to make one, should be done the proper way by creating the images from scratch.

It's hard...I transplanted the 10.1 GUI for Jaguar, and man there are thousands of images that make up what you see. I like my girlfriend, but I'll just buy her something,..

Could we just let this thread die already...jeesh. I just wanted to see what Milk looked like in pink, then I thought Max would want to see what it looked like so I posted it. And it wasn't a hue shift, I colored it pink. Max,you made your point; you don't want to make this theme and don't want it to be released...if others disagree with your decision, let them, you can't change their mind. I'll delete the image just so you can be at peace, now try not to be so sensitive Max, just relax.

For the record I wasn't saying that someone should use his theme, make a pink version and call it "MILK" or anything with the word MILK in it!
So Max would therefore get NO emails...
Again...Where is the harm?
I still don't think anyone has made a case for it being copyrighted.
Although you could possibly copyright each individual image that was used as a work of art...
But the whole theme? no.
I dont understand why themes can't have a type of opensource classification.
It would make more sense to share what everyone makes.
M2
P.S. FYI people use parts of people's themes around here ALL the time (no im not talking about me...I have never made a theme)
I'm not saying that it makes it right, just that its naive to assume that it doesn't happen often.

It is kinda a violation of copyright just by changing the hue on a preview of somebody's art. Though "Strawberry Milk" is a good idea, it should have been shown to Max first before being posted.

Round and round and round we go....
If you want a pink theme, make one, but keep it original.
