A client of mine is coming over in about 4 hours to work on some ideas for his website. He wants to see something in brushed metal like the iDVD interface.
I need examples of sites, or a repeating brushed metal pattern. Please HELP!!
What is the plugin I can go online and purchase TODAY that will help me create repeating backgrounds in photoshop.
If you done something similar please let me see or show me how you dealt with the brushed metal.

If you want repeating brushed metal a la iTunes, open the iTunes.rsrc in a resource editor and copy out the metal texture.

You'd probably have to ask Max for permission, but his Brushed theme package has a repeating metal tile to use as a wallpaper.

Go to themes, then Brushed.

To create brused metal in Photoshop, do the following:
1.create your document, make it square and note the dimensions*
2.go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise
3.create some nice high contrast noise
4.drag your rectangular marquee to select an area the entire height of your document but only a dozen or so pixels wide
5.scale the selected pixels in the horizontal... play a bit depending on the effect you want, but scale right to the edges of the document and beyond
... you should now have the basis for your metal ...
6.Select All and define a pattern
7.resize your canvas to 200%
8.apply the pattern you made in step 6
9.Filter>Blur>Motion Blur at 0° (horizontal) to a degree that smoothes over the repeating edges of your pattern
10.play woth curves or levels to get the contrast right
11.when you're happy, create a fixed size selection the same size as your document was when you started and Crop the sucker
... now you have a perfectly tiling brushed metal surface ...
hope this didn't come too late...

Except this is copyright violation and you can't actually use the pattern for commercial purposes...

Who will know? Is it so Apple-y you can notice right away? Anyway, brushed metal isn't so hard to create in Photoshop.

Are you talking about BillGate$ from Micro$oft, because he doesn't actually use them.... he changes them 'just enough'.

The quickest (if not highly dubious) method to get 'Apple style Brushed metal' for a web site, is unsuprisingly, from Apple. Go to the .mac part of Apples home site and dig around in the source, all the mettal resorces you need to create an iTunes/iDVD style website. Highly dubious, yes. Ileagal, quite possibly. The quickest method, definately.

Wow - I can't believe that even the moderator supports yanking the resources straight from Apple. Bizarre. But honestly, Apple's brushed metal isn't the greatest ever made by any means - you can create something comparable or better in Photoshop in a matter of seconds, so why not?

Eeek... the mod supports stealing ??? I think Apple turns a blind eye towards the use of its buttons, tabs and textures by Mac enthusiasts and commercial uses supportive of the platform (resellers, developers, etc), but no way would they let a totally unrelated commercial website use them unscathed (if they knew). I for one don't support the recycling or ripping of commercial GUI elements (aside from the reasons mentioned above) any more than I support the recycling or ripping of original elements from the work of another themer or designer. C'mon, this stuff is pretty easy to dream up and create from scratch... if the only way you (not you specifically, I speak figuratively here) can produce graphics is by lifting them from somewhere else, maybe you should be doing something else with your time.
