Just noticed that there is a new version of Sosumi on Resexcellence today. It wasn't released by Kevin/Zimphire/Sinewave) so I was just wondering if it was sanctioned or stolen or pirated or what? Maybe it was someone that ported it over from the Windoze version without knowing there ever was an original OSX version. I think the new blue looks terrible especially compared to the old blue, but maybe it will make all the old Sosumi lovers happy.

New Sosumi...

Original Sosumi....

P.S. The subject line of this thread is a cute pun, not a confession. I didn't do it.... and if I did I would have removed all the blue... you know that!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Well, I finally couldn't take not knowing anymore and downloaded it.... the answers to my questions were in the ReadMe. Kevin is going to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pissed!

ReadMe;

-Sosumi for Jaguar by Jimmy Thorsell (darkstar@gnu-darwin.org)
-original version for 10.1 by Kevin Knopp.
-before that: unknown.
I just fixed upp the graphics a bit and added some Jag-specific stuff
into the theme. hope you enjoy it.
90% of the cred for the graphics go to Kevin who i unfortunately
havent been able to reach.

Tará

/ Jimmy

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Speaking of the themes posted today on ResExcellence...

Aren't those scrollbars straight from Max's Brushed theme? Max, did you give him permission to use those?

(Not that I'd use this "Quaker" theme anyway... way too frieky)

Yeah, there's a LOT more stuff in there besides the scrollbars that's lifted from 'Brushed' too! Some of it even still says 'Brushed'. Inside the Themescript and the .plist it says, "Made by Blake Stephens, www.TheResourceFork.com; and Max Rudberg, homepage.mac.com/max_08/"

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

I am not pissed. I emailed both resex and the person who used my theme. I haven't received a reply from either though. It will be taken off the page.

not everyone knows of or bothers to come to this place...

you leave an old car in the barn to rust away...and in time you leave the farm behind...someone will come along and polish it up and put it in a showroom!

Welcome to the world of rip's & mod's. What a terrible world it is.

Sad thing is, you're going to see more and more of this happening. People just don't give a sh!t about authors or their wishes anymore.

Mm, okay. With all sincerity, I was just wondering-- Not trying to pin blame on someday prematurely.

Send me it.

BTW the guy who runs ResEx was real nice about it. I told him not to worry about it. He seems to think he got off on the wrong foot with themers.

Wasn't really his fault.

by the way zimphire...sosume has been my favorite theme since i first saw it...i often thought this is what apple should have made x look like...
but it seems the people at apple are really stubborn and went for eye candy instead of a good functional look...
you should update it or let someone else if you're not interested...

i also made a theme for sosumi here:

red button, yellow button, green button, zombie face titlebar

front, back

pop-up, progress bar

textbox, load bar
radio buttons, checkboxes

ok, cancel, slider

scrollbars, left and right arrows, resize corner

end of window

except i call text-sumi. this is just a preview. the entire version will be out next summer. i still have to get the grammar and spell check done.

i use text park.

I've been burned repeatedly by Wintel dweebs. It seems to be a bigger problem over there. Luckily I'm buying a PC and creating my own ports on the XP side of the fence (mybe some original stuff too - can do a lot more on a PC these days (sad as that is).

This is kind of unrelated, but I too have been ripped off of... and the rip off was totally successful!

Here is the rip: its a cell phone theme... Yes, it is sad when you are ripped off of by someone who took your image and made it the background for a cell phone.

Here is the theme page. I couldn't believe when I saw that it had been downloaded 5086 times. My stupid original was probably downloaded a zillionth of that.

Here is my original desktop on ResEx, old and crusty, from April 2002. (Scroll down to the swirly blue pic by Alexander Wolf.)

I found this all out tonight when I was reading a review of the phone that the theme was for. Low and behold, one of the example photos in the review is using that theme! Then, I emailed the reviewer (he was very nice) and he led me to the theme. So, I emailed the theme guy and asked where he found the swirl image. Of course I know where its from, but I would sure love a funny response as if he did it himself!

Its stupid and Im overreacting, but its so uncommon (to me) so I figured I would contribute to this thread. Its not even that nice of a picture, lol!

I'm sorry but this is a load of crap. All you themers do is take APPLE'S GUI and modify it! What's the difference when someone takes YOURS and modifies it?

We all start with the same thing.

If Apple wants to go after people for modifying Aqua, the have ever right to. It's their work.

IMHO of course.

Actually no, we take Apples GUI pieces which are in place and replace the contents with our own. Unless it is something which is improving on Apples design (which are much needed and appreciated).

I have to agree with swiz, unless one is making an aqua variation... a purely original theme is not AT ALL a modification of aqua elements, but an all out replacement of aqua.

Therefore, an original work.

I'm a windows skinner.

Oh and btw, after you spend years of your life making theme's then you can reply with such nonsense if you still wish to do so.

You're lucky people modify Apples resources or you'd be force fed the same crap Apple comes out with time and time again (panther *bleck*). Just my opinion of course but aqua is getting old.
