Well, doesn't seem like anybody's noticed, so I'll post it up.

Anyway, the newest theme from Izawa, Blue Metal:

English version of website

I really like the idea behind it, and the really really neat things that he's done with some of the design elements (check out those checkboxes! ), but of course the pink doesn't exactly fly with me.

I guess it's creative, but I agree, looks ugly to me.

Looks real cool! He has great attention to details, no doubt! I like the highlight on the tabs and the depth of the pink goo stuff. Reminds me of the Marathon. But as said the color choices might not be the best.

Little too fancy and ... active ... for my taste, and the color choice is a bit odd, but it does look cool.

The checkboxes are sweeeet (I assume those little switch thingies are the checkboxes?). Don't care for the rest of it though.

I just applied it and it's way cool! Incredible attention to detail. The menus are escpecially cool. And he have added a push state for scrollbars, but it only works in carbon apps as usual. But it's cool.

I wonder what Swiz thinks of this theme.

Attention to detail notwithstanding, it looks like the designer slapped a bunch of new elements onto Swiz' SS Final Cut.

Opinions?

huh? you obviously aren't familiar with izawa's work...he is an inovator...he copies no one!
you are also oblivious to what it takes to make a theme...
you don't slap elements onto themes...it is very time consuming and nerve racking and lifeforce consuming...

do tell us where it even remotely resembles final cut pro...

you have to back up what you say when you accuse someone of felonious theme theft...

that said...i like it!

Not my tastes, but what Max said is right, attention to detail is great.

The themer needs to make more themes.

Now only if we could get Albie Wong to start making OS X themes.

I'm not sure how long I'll use it, but right now this is a breath of fresh air. Izawa always impresses with his (I think Izawa is a he) understanding of the system elements. Very refined. Make a toxic green (to replace the toxic red) and you'd have a pretty nice xBoxish theme.

Heh heh, I forgot to mention those... The menus are incredible!

*snip out junk*
Show me how Izawa copied SS Final Cut Pro (or how he has copied anybody anywhere for any of his themes), and I will personally saw my iBook into quarters and eat it. Izawa is the last person on Earth who would ever dare to copy someone else's work.

Very much so! I'm always amazed at the things that he and padma (aka Butt O'sigh) turn out-- their knowledge of OS X is nothing short of stunning. Again, too bad about the color choice though, but maybe someone could convince him to make a variation...?

i LOVE the design of it.... but the colors are just not working for me. perhaps if he did a variation with the blue changed to grey, and the pink to green... I would definately use it.

OK, OK. Where Blue Metal looks reminiscent of SS Studio Pro: the push button. That's it! No disrespect meant to Izawa. I know he's no hack. I thought he was simply hosting the design. Don't ask.

To quandarry: my first post wasn't an accusation of theft-- it was an off-the-cuff opinion. No need to 'drain our lifeforce' in an arguement.

To Sage: put the ketchup away. You can eat your iBook another time.

Better than the Kaleidoscope version http://www.kaleidoscope.net/schemes/...potlight.shtml . I would like to see color variations on the pink bits.

gawd...i miss kaleidoscope!

Will Kaleidoscope support Mac OS X?
It is too early to say. We intend to make a version of Kaleidoscope for Mac OS X. However, unlike applications which can be Carbonized, low level hacks like Kaleidoscope need to be completely rewritten for Mac OS X.

Greg Landweber has said that MAYBE he will do something similar to Kaleidoscope for OS X but only if Apple sticks to the APPLE GUI standards. Apple programed OS 8-9 to cause Kaleidoscope glitches-found by Greg and fixed, Apple claims they have no knowledge of how this happened, hmmmm.
He would have to do a major fix every time Apple updates the OS X and he does't want to have to go against the Apple grain anymore, he would rather work in conjunction with Apple but that is not going to happen in the near future.

Apple had Greg & Arlo Rose's create "Copland" the platinum GUI in OS 8 and should have moved the team to OS X. Greg & Arlo would have made a Really New GUI with the functionallity of OS 9 and more.

I don't believe you. Link, please.

Greg Landweber has said that there will be absolutely no Kaleidoscope for OS X.

It was from an interview with Greg when OS X was pre release public beta. No chance of Kaleidoscope now though, you are right. Themers & Theme changers do it now.

Agreed. In many ways I think this one is more of a technical demonstration than an effort to create a long-term usable theme... it does have some interesting features

To be fair, he has been known to say that it may eventually happen someday, but not for the foreseeable future and not unless Apple opens up the API - I doubt he ever will though. If only some talented developer would take this on, I would get behind them 110%... I wrote Unsanity to tell them I'd give them a pint of blood, my first-born son and my right arm (not to mention some cool-ass themes to ship with) if they ever decided to whip up something like K2 for OSX, but they never wrote me back.

Cheeky bastards you'd think at least a simple 'keep dreaming' response would be warranted. Rosyna? Any comment?

I got a response with my iChat Haxie idea, maybe they're just real busy on something.

(my haxie idea was to find a way to bypass iChat AV's 600MHz G3 minimum so lowend G3 users could video chat even if the quality suffered)

The checkboxes are freaking cool. Overall I think its a great "flashy" theme with as usual an Izawa level of attention put into the finite details. Being in Panther I cant try it but I'd like to. That being said, I also am not a fan of the colors, with some alternate colors I could definitely use this theme long term. Lame as it sounds I am still a huge proponent of the more monoton-ish themes which make it easy to work with and dont take your mind off the important stuff.

Damn.

I have to disagree with that one. The brushed metal apps look just like Apple's except with a purple protective plastic sheet over them. I don't like that at all. The rest of the theme is pretty cool I think now that the graphite variation is working, but the purple is a little intense I think. I never thought I'd be the one to say this but a true grey variation would be better.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Well that whitish grey is a LOT closer to 'Graphite' than that hot magenta is to 'Blue'! :-]

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.
