This theme mockup, as you can see, is inspired by Sony PS2...it's not meant to represent PS2 though. What got me started are the widgets, I thought since

1) No one can change the position of the widgets and that

2) if you are applying thmes to Mac OS X, you must know how to use it

so why not create funky widgets that don't exactly represent what they do, only thing I kept were the colors. So there it is, the rest of the theme elements I'm making up as I go along. Don't know when I'll complete it, but you can expect a beta release soon.

Hmm no offense but I don't like it. The widgets look very... bad. Maybe if you turned the titlebar buttons into the PS2 controller buttons they'd look better. And maybe change the colors to match the button colors. I do like the dropdown button and view option widget, though. And the back and forward buttons aren't bad either. Maybe make them a bit slimmer to look more like the start and select buttons on the controller. I know it says it isn't supposed to represent PS2 but as it is, I think it looks very much.... not clean. Interesting idea though.

The button widgets remind me of starfleets original Iridium concept.

[Sarcasm]Ah! Nice to see the usual warm welcome[/Sarcasm]

Frankly, I could care less about the pessimistic and rude, I'm having fun creating this theme.

This is where I am at with the theme:

To Supersize Click Here

As you can see, the Finder presents a few odd glitches and the toolbar button refuses to be skinned (one of those "works with Cocoa but not with Carbon" things) . I'm also experimenting with the menu.

Never seen it Zimphire, so I'm not ripping it off if that is what you are thinking of.

Sorry, not my cup of tea, but that doesn't matter
I do however like the idea with the PS2 titlebar buttons, but I think you should work on them a bit more. They're kind of rough right now. Like someone else said, maybe you should try to make them look like the actual buttons on the PS2 controller or something?
Anyway, good luck with the theme.

It looks like you are combining two great theme ideas into one theme and it's not going to work. The cute flat primary color shapes theme is kinda cool, but I doubt if many people would actually consider using such a theme. The superfuturuistic stamped darkmetal theme that I see most fully realized in the finder buttons and titlebars is fantastic and if you could carry that design language over to the widgets etc I think you'd have a real winner. You MUST give serious thought to losing the baby blue though.... that's even worse than Apple's aqua-blue. Sure am glad to see that you're not letting the critics get you down though!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

take the blue out of the menus, if u refine the widgets a little more, it'd be cool

I would take it way darker, change the widgets to buttons like the ps2 controller, and simplify the menu's.

Maybe like a dark, dark blue/purple with black...? Right now its a strange color and the cartoony looks don't help.

Change that desktop too, it makes it look worse!

dace...

never listen to anyone's opinion when and if you present a theme idea...you are not making a theme for them...you are making a theme for yourself and only you...it's your ideas and hard work that will go into making something that you will enjoy using...

then if you want too, release it...thousands of people around the world will choose to use it or not...only .000001% of theme users ever come here or even want too...

looks like joe's theme, too dark, too light, should be this, should be that, looks like windows, looks too kaleidoscopey, it's not practical...blah, blah, blah...

screw em all!

your theme looks fun...keep going where you want it to go...

this is an opinion...soooooo, you don't have to listen...

It is ugly. I wouldn't use that for a second. If you don't want criticisim or are making this for yourself then don't open it up to comments by posting.

I am thoroughly sick of your attitude frankly. Not everyone is going to like every theme you make. I'm willing to be gentle with people new to theming, I expect their first attempts will be less than pretty, but you're just jumping on people for being honest.

The widgets need a lot of work. I normally don't criticize or praise themes, but I think this one has some potential, with a bit more work.

Naw, I just said they reminded me of them. I am sure it wasn't a ripoff.

It looks neat. I would make the title bar gradients a little more subtle.

And why did the guy who was making an Xbox theme get flamed? The PS2 looks like a chunk of oddly shaped plastic to me, I think the Xbox has 20 times more design put into it than the PS2.
A PS2 theme is an interesting idea, but I really don't think the widgets will work, it would have to be a black and blue theme with as few other colors to it as possable. I think it's too light to be a PS2 theme.
And an Xbox theme would be a better idea I think.

It got slammed simply because it's yet another Aqua clone, not a completely new design.

Why would I hate you? Hating you would be a severe waste of time and energy. Rest assured I haven't wasted one calorie in hating you.

Till the day I die I will say it like it is when it comes to design. If you keep on making themes because you like them your skill will go virtually no where. Listen to the people, put time into your work, perfect mockups even after you think they're good. I can't be constructive here... nothing to work with.

Keep trying

<warning>honest opinion ahead</warning>

It's ok, but needs alot of work.

Clean up the widgets, they arn't very smooth looking in their current form. Tone down the gradients & bevels, not many people like huge bevels, especially in OS X (they look amateurish). Maybe make it darker. And for a PS 2 theme I think the glowing blue (blue not cyan) would work well. Also, dim the colors on the titlebar widgets, they are way too bright for the rest of the theme.

Good luck!

These are the widgets that you should use with this theme, especially if they glow a deep rich cobalt blue when the mouse comes near them. I love the titlebar you posted at the top of the page so much that I want to copy it for my theme (but I won't) and these widgets would go perfectly with it. Take those two design languages and make everything else from it and you will have a true winner!

quandarry...Thanks for the backup. I was going to say exactly the same thing about Adam's Post. The Matrix theme never really got finished not because of any negative comments. I just got bored with it, mostly because Matrix Reloaded really sucked.

I wondered about that too. I kinda stopped using the supercool screensaver after I saw the movie for that reason too. I like your theme a lot better than the movie! Solaris was another movie that I thought would have made a much better screensaver than a motion picture! :-]

Here's a quick example I whipped up of what I feel a PS2 theme should look like.

The widgets would 'glow' when hovered.

Of course I prolly wouldnt use the Circle and Square, but to each their own.

I think I'll be stopping development on this theme, the widgets aren't working for me either and I can;t come up with any better ones. Oh, well...on to the next idea.

No, you see the term "Aqua clone" does not adhere to the dictionary but to logic: a theme that uses a large amount of Aqua elements. Putting aside the fact that theme was ugly and not the least bit matrix-like I think its quite clear why its mostly Aqua: laziness.

Themes such SmoothStripes are meant to be Aqua clones, or rather modifications of Aqua. Themes like Panther Pro vaguely resemble Aqua because the design upon which they are based looks like Aqua.

To Da'Dace,

That's life, that's what people say.
You're riding' high in April,
Shot down in May.
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top in June.

That's life, funny as it seems.
Some people get their kicks,
Steppin' on dreams;
But I don't let it get me down,
'Cause this ol' word keeps getting around.

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

That's life, I can't deny it,
I thought of quitting,
But my heart just won't buy it.
If I didn't think it was worth a try,
I'd roll myself up in a big ball and die.

-----------------------

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

Lyrics mostly by 'frankie baby'

Wow, nice use of your adjectives

Dace has a history of making ugly themes. From his eye-popping "gay pride" theme to this is just get worse and worse... well, this is better than the gay pride one. I'm not bashing him, and certainly not because he's gay and adam probably didn't even know.
