I was wondering if someone would be willing to develop a nice icon for an application. I've been helping to being dcgui to OSX and now it's here, but there is no icon for it. Well, there is but it looks bad. It's the logo in the upper left hand corner of the homepage. It would be nice if it looked like that logo or the dcgui splash screen. I can provide that. If someone is ambitious, there are many icons used within the program that are in serious need of an upgrade.

The homepage is http://dc.ketelhot.de

I will, of course, grant credit for the icon if used.

And while you're at it, if you want to make an Icon for our app, ThemeChanger, well... do it

Only photorealistic-aquaish icons, please

What ever happened with this icon someone made for you? Guess you must not have like it, but I love it and still use it a year later for your app! Seems to meet your description above to a tee.

The guy who made the watson icon is cool. Did you see the interview on the Screensaver show, he can't hand draw, he said that with photoshop that did not matter. check him out http://www.mikematas.com/

I love the Watson icon. That themechanger icon is pretty cool, too. Any takers on dcgui? The Watson concept gives me an idea myself.

I disagree, I find myself clicking on any thread which catsank has replied to solely for his reliably included images.

Spazik, I like it, but I think you should have aqua widgets (maybe?) and instead of the gray back/black titlebar, maybe like brushed titlebar and desktop? Like aqua/brushed themes?

Okay, Here's an update? Does anyone know how I can make the image in the window different. It basically goes from Aqua to graphite, but that's the default Apple Graphite theme. So, I want it to look like it's switching themes. But, I changed it to metal.

What do you think? ThemeChanger Metal

Maybe only half the icon should be metal, since you'd be changing from that to something else... Currently it seems to suggest a desktop pic changer or something.

We received a mail from Matthew Bice and he wanted to make an icon for ThemeChanger.

So I guess it's going to be a contest between Catsank, Spaztik, Tew and Bice

Spat: Your icon is too "Duality"-ish..........

I am so glad that you are looking for an icon still! That must mean that you are thinking of updating the program again! Maybe I'm not the only one that donated $ to your efforts. Half the time it still freezes for me and has to be forced to quit. Other than that it is the perfect theme switcher and I don't know what we'd to without it! That icon wasn't mine though.... in fact I don't even remember who made it. I think he sent it to me originally so I could put the picture of it on the forum because he didn't know how or something like that.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Come on man. You got to give me a little more credit than that. Try just taking a screenshot of a safari window and skewing it. It look like ****. I had to draw it by hand. I also did a highress version . This icon being simple is its greatest strength. It immediately gets the intended idea across.

He isn't attacking you. What he is trying to say is that your design is not that original.

For me, I like the icon you made but I'd like to see you being a little more creative than that. You can't simply take credit from something that isn't designed by you (ie: Safari window, iDisk Globe, etc)

I agree with what you say there. At first, I did not like the idea Mike had going. But as he progressed with it I began to love it. Its true that its simplicity does what ANY icon should do, give you the best idea of what the application does, and the pencil/website combo makes it clear to anyone. I must say though, my favourite icon of all time is FTPeel's. I just love its originality.

I initially liked your icons, especially the app icons. But the toolbar icons, well I got them in the toolbar and they just didn't fit...fit with OS X is what I mean. They look too cartoony in my opinion. I know I could of given you some advice and change them, but to be honest they would have had to be redone. Sorry to make you do the work, but you still got paid

Coming up with the idea for the icon is 50% of the job. You could say who ever did the text edit icon does not get credit because they did not invent the "written letter" and the mechanical pencil. The simple idea behind the text edit icon is what makes it nice.

iOliverC, I look forward to your application. This is going to be a giant leap, I mean a month ago you were asking questions about how to add a toolbar to a window.

I like Mike's icons, generally, but this one's a bit.. Odd... the pencil looks too 3D-ish

Also, that safari window's a bit skewed

But that was the style we were going for. That's the first thing I asked when we started. If that wasn't the style I thought you wanted, I would've went with a more photo-realistic approach. No problems, though. And I did get paid.

I wasn't bashing anything, either. Obviously it's not just a window screenshot with a pencil, but it also not the hardest thing to put together, and I prefer a more stylized approach than a strict photo-realism (something Apple does with their icons). Maybe I just miss the fun OS 9 days of fun icons. Aqua has spoiled style, I think. Again, not bashing, just giving my opinion on the whole thing.

I seem to remember asking if you could do photo-realism, but anywho, its over. Can't change the past.

Well, that was a weak example Icon design ideas for a text processor application is pretty limited while Tag have plenty of potential design ideas.

If Apple does this, it doesn't mean you have to follow them. Apple encouraged us to follow the guidelines but be creative at the same time.

Just my 2 cents

You can be plenty creative in a text edit icon. But if Apple made the text edit icon be a pencil that looked like a rocket ship flying around a stack of papers with a big A on it my mom would never know what the icon was for (no offense mom). Icons main purpose is to allow people to understand an idea with a minimum amount of thinking. After you have done that you want to make it look cool.

I totally agree people need to be creative. I think my HTML icon is creative and gets the point across very well.

This rough mock-up in illustrator is about as far as I got...

After reading that such 'iconic heavy-weight' talent is already on the case - I must bow out -

But thanks for explaining what your sig means :)
