I've got a few questions and thought it would be better to put them all in one place instead of scatter them around.

First Q is for BBX: Just wondering what's going on with Mirai. I know you're busy with your new child and have greater priorities but I'm about ready to do some maintenance and changing themes always wreaks havoc on permissions. If Mirai is around the corner then I'll hold off.

Second Q is for anybody: I upgraded my memory so before installing I reverted to Aqua (didn't want any surprises at start-up) but I just noticed that the shut down button on the log-in panel is the Fatal-E style when depressed but Aqua when left alone.

I ran Aqua Fix and logged out but it didn't appear to change that resource...

It's a really minor thing but if anyone knows of a quick way to fix it I'd appreciate the info.

Lastly, same reason I mentioned to BBX; Anybody have any grey style themes about to be released? I read something about a metalish PantherPro and some grey Aqua variant the other day...

I'd hate to spend an hour + on a permissions repair only to mess them up again

Thanks to all you theme makers who go through all the significant effort to create themes that fit into the Aqua mold. (in other words, making great things on a limited canvas)

Hey, I was looking at that Panther screenshot... So, does that mean Panther 7B28 doesn't have stripes anymore? Because that would be AWESOME!!!

Also, does anyone have the 7B28 screenshots of the new icon hilites... I've heard they're different, but I want to see what's different. It's driving me nuts!

I hate the current icon hilites in Panther.

I think I can answer the first question! Mirai will never be released because it has to be perfect first and nothing is EVER perfect. Who knows if it has even been started yet... it could just be all talk! :-]

And as to the last question I'm sure there are grey themes about to be released. There are grey themes released all the time.... in fact 3/4 of all themes are grey, and most of the rest are blue. (even my theme is dark grey so I shouldn't complain, but I do)

And as for the overall gist of your question... are you using themechanger? It works perfectly for me except for needing a force quit every now and then, but it's never messed anything up, and it doesn't hurt the permissions at all as far as I can tell. What is messing up your permissions.... are you trying to install the theme manually. If so, just log in as Root and do it from there so you don't have to change permissions. Or is some theme switcher doing affecting them?

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

square instead of rounded corners and the edges are tighter to the icon...

There will be a "metal" PantherPro, though it is not "right around the corner." I wouldn't hold off doing system maintenance for it. BTW, I'll be posting a preview in the "G5 theme concept" thread if you want a sneak peek.

It's not really messing anything up to where something doesn't work but after theme changing if you check the repair permissions log you'll notice that it fixes just about every resource a theme replaces.

Zimphire: That's a nice theme. Is it supposed to be something like Smooth Stripes for Panther or did you make other changes?

I'mDaMac Wow, that's great. My one request would be that the gel buttons in forms be clear in their "resting" state. I found the always graphite colored ones in Panther Pro stood out too much on a page.

I guess I'll go ahead and run repairs tonight as I likely won't switch themes again until one of these new ones come along.

Thanks everyone.

I think you worry too much. I use themechanger every day and I've never repaired my permissions and my computer has always worked fine. Try 'not' fixing them and see if you have any problems.

Who's worried? I just like to keep things well maintained.

It's not going to keep me from themes or anything.

if you dislikes the previous icon highlite...
the new ones will not make you any happier

Its basically the same shape,
the corners are still round and NOT square
but the shape has a stroke now, making it look even worse imo

can anybody figure out where these resources
are hidden?
If it ain't broken... Fix it!©

I've come across something new to me with themeing. Im working on the G5 theme and for some reason the Finder toolbar button retains the Aqua appearance even though I am SURE that I've properly altered the resources for it. Anyone dealt with this before?

Yeah it must be something to do with the fact that TP specified either 3080 or 3081 as obsolete and it doesnt display it for modifying. Thanks for the tip quandarry.

This was a mistake by me when I sorted the PXMs. The Toolbar Button Blue 2 is used in Carbon apps suc as the Finder. It will be corrected (along with other stuff) in the next TP release.

Mike S. and NetworkShadow:
I have also been anxiously awaiting Mirai. I know there are many of us who are. I mean if it looks anything like BBX Platinum or BBX Mercury that Billy (bbxstudio) did, then it's gonna be awesome. But I know he's got a new baby and on top of that work. He also seemed a bit jaded/burnt out after discovering that Panther would greatly limit theming. Man, I'm HOPING that Billy releases Mirai for Jaguar. Even longer than NetworkShadow, I have been waiting for this since Sept.2002, when I was still on my Dell PC!!! [It was announced on the mmicons website.] Now THAT'S insane!

P.S. Billy, if you're reading this, I'll be happy at whatever version of Mirai you'll release.

Heck I'll work on porting the thing to Panther my self if it comes out for Jag. I've already semi-ported a bunch of themes to the WWDC Panther preview, so I don't see what the big deal is, it's nothing that can't be worked around from the way I see it.

And I also wouldn't mind a less than perfect release of Mirai, knowing BBX even if it's not perfect, it should be better than most themes that are out now. A beta would be sweet even I'm sure.

Could you put together a checklist of things that need to be done to port a theme to Panther? I'm currently working on automating the process in ThemePark.

Okay. If anyone else has been doing this manually, it'd be groovy if you'd drop me a line and let me know what's involved.

Well I had been using theme fur with the Panther Extras.rsrc and it worked well for the most part. A few text colors didn't change, not all metal textures worked, and the small menu bar was missing. I'm not sure how much different the new betas are though. I'll let you know when and if I do get the latest panther build. I also hadn't tried to install more of the theme then just the Extras.rsrc.
