Hey i was wondering..how do you customize your desktop like everyone else. put in a new theme and everything

You could change your desktop background by going to System Preferences application. In default install, it should be in your dock with the look of light switch on white dashboard.

Play around with it and you'll see plenty of options to customize your mac

Theme is a different story because it is not officially supported by Apple. You'd have to use third-party app to change the theme.

www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com is where you get all kind of OS X softwares. You could find third-party theme changer there.
