Well.. I installed the little theme callede "10.1 Blue Widgets" on 10.2.6.. It has worked before in Jaguar, so I thought what the heck! But as soon as it had installed, programs started to crash unexpectetly, and I couldnt start any programs! (Not even AquaFix, Yikez!)
And now, each time I start my machine, it boots up, but when it gets to the Finder, it just displays a blue screen with the mouse arrow on it.. And doesnt go any further..

If I login via root (Have yet to see if it works), are there anyone who have any solution on which files I should delete/replace/HELP/anything ?

I really really really would like NOT to have to reinstall the entire Jaguar from the bottom...

Note: Theme's are BAD!

If you have OS 9 on a seperate Partition... you can hold down OPTION on start-up and choose OS 9... then simply replace the Extras.rsrc file with a fresh one...

Sorry about the terrible accident... I hope I could help.

If you apply a theme that you are not sure if it will work, always keep the theme switcher open and try and launch a new app. If it crashes, switch back to a theme that works.

I recommend that you try this:

Running AquaFix from the command line

AquaFix can be run from the command line simply by typing "aquafix" at the command prompt in the Terminal application. This means you can restore aqua defaults even if your interface is messed up to the point of being unable to boot into OS X. The procedure for running AquaFix when you cannot boot X is as follows:

1. Start up your computer holding command-s
2. When you get a command prompt, type /sbin/fsck -y and press return
3. When the prompt returns, type /sbin/mount -uw / and press return
4. Type sudo aquafix at the prompt and press return
5. Continue booting OS X by typing exit at the prompt and pressing return.

You may want to print this procedure, as when you need to run it, you probably won't be able to access this document.

Did you install using ThemeChanger or Duality? Was AquaFix installed before you installed this theme?

You have run AquaFix before for it to create it's gui backup?
If not you will have to A: Totally reinstall the OS. B: Get it booted in to 9 and go rooting around the OSX install CD for the files that the theme replaced/damaged.

A back-up - nice to know it's there, just in-case of emergencies!

Thain Esh Kelch -

'Close the barn door' kinda thing - But its a good idea
when your back on your feet to back-up - using some
utility software like these pesky but dependable apps...

You can boot off of the OS 9 install CD to move the file back if holding option doesn't work to get into 9. If you don't know whether you used Duality or ThemeChanger to switch your theme then maybe you shouldn't be altering your OS in such a way, I'm not trying to be a dick about it, but carelessness like this kind of gives themes an undeserved bad name. Themes aren't bad, the fact that you installed a 10.1 theme into 10.2 is though. I hope you get your machine back in good working order soon, and when you do, if you decide to use themes again, check out the blue widget version of Max's SmoothStripes for 10.2.

If b00zo's suggestion doesn't work, try this:

Start up your computer holding command-s
When you get a command prompt, type /sbin/fsck -y and press return
When the prompt returns, type /sbin/mount -uw / and press return
type /usr/bin/tcfix
If this didn't work, type cp /Library/Application Support/ThemeChanger/AquaBackup/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Extras.rsrc /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Extras.rsrc (this is "cp <very long path> <very long path>").
I don't remember the path to Duality's backup. Anyone?

You could boot from the Mac OS 9 CD and fix it that way...

Just Do an Archive and Install with your Jaguar Discs.

It replaces the system folder, thats it.

I did this as well and borked my system w/ a bad theme, but Archive and Install solved my problem.

Well.. I got it to work... But it is a bit slower thna usual now.. Unfortunately..

Again, Themes are BAD!

Anyway, I used the AquaFix manual install.. Got a linux friend to ssh the files to the correct places, and then i booted up in single user mode. I used aquafix from the commmand line and thn it booted up... Thankfully...

I've had my share of theme caused problems in the past. It's been about a year since my last big problem though because I know what I'm doing now.
Rule 1: only use themes made for the version of OS X you are using (unless you know how to port them)
Rule 2: Keep Aqua Fix installed at all times, and have a printed copy of how to use it from the comand-line (for if things go really wrong).
That's about all there is to it.
