First off - SS Power Metal Swizstyle

Preview of current progress-

Im quite close to having it all ready for release. It looks better in Panther due to Panthers reworked GUI.

Im gonna wait to release it until Sunday because I wanna give Unsanity a chance to release the Metallifizer final for Panther first since for the theme to look really nice it is REQUIRED. I may just continue to hold onto all my Panther versions until they release it.

Think you could do a midnight release on Saturday? I can't wait that long!

This is my favorite theme, and Panther's Aqua is starting to get stale again, even with Max's Smoothstripes.

Cool! You should do them newest to oldest. Is this going to work with TC or is it a package like Max's smooth stripes?

Its for use with ThemeChanger. I have spent the last two hours creating a brand spanking new Panther Aqua Restore theme which will of course accompany all SS releases. Just got done tidying it up and it works smoothly and reliably.

SS Power Metal Swizstyle is done except for a few new Panther elements in the login window and a few more sessions on the new additions to Extras.rsrc and cleaning up TP's mini state automations.

swiz-

what's your thinking on this,

have the theme on top of metalifizer (like what max did), or will it take out the metal in the finder all by itself?

thanks
Dan.

Metallifizer is absolutely necessary.
If you dont use it the Finder window will be fully grayscale with colored widgets and toolbar buttons. Quite hideous. Damn Apple for that bonehead move.

Thanks everyone.
Whelp I did it again, took time away from my work because I really wanted to get this out. I leave for Chicago tomorrow morning and have to move to a new place this weekend so it looked to be now or never.

I must say the ubercoolest thing about Panther themeing now is the ability to theme the disk/folder selection in the left sidebar of the Finder.

Please read the included doc which says READ. It explains everything from using metallifizer to installing the Safari Skin. and when you mount the disc image view it in icon mode, it makes much more sense that way. Plus I made a pretty picture too .

http://swizcore.com/SS/macOSX.php

Thank you and goodnight now ( well afternoon anyway...)

Also, the safari buttons appear to be for the wrong theme (they look PM non swiz style).

The download link doesn't seem to be working anymore. Possibly taken down to fix the skin problem?

A note: I originally made this on my old powerbook G4, hence the wierd size of 1152x768. I'm using right now witht the "fill screen" option and it looks ok, but feel free to photoshop it to your own liking.

Looks good although it doesn't work for me. The Aqua restore works flawlessly but the Power Metal kills panther..i.e. flashing finder bar and the finder won't run....oh well. Max's installer app works the best so far...

Looks like I spoke too soon.

I've got the exact same problem as James. As much as I love this theme, I'm not giving up my Finder for it ;-).

hmmm, I wonder what that Finder problem is all about for you guys.

At first I did have a weird Finder lag problem when it tried to quit and restart after the theme change but that went away after a restart. I would just suggest trying that for a possible solution. If you do try that let me know how it goes. Also, which version of ThemeChanger are you using?

Regarding the Safari Skin... DOH!
I'll rectify that lickity split.

Im really stumped on those inactive widgets. I'll have a looky see though.

Thanks folks!

Restart doesn't help and I'm using 0.6(v18) of themechanger...

To all you guys who are having "Finder" problems try this.........

Disable "Metallifizer" completely, restart.

See if that fixes it.

This happened to me on a theme I did yesterday and disabling fixed it.

Maybe/maybe not.

Let me also note that the problem only occurs when switched via "ThemeChanger", bundling it in a package works very well even with "Metallifizer" enabled.

Much as I would LOVE to use PowerMetal SS theme, my Finder will not start with it installed.

Doesn't matter whether I use Metallizer or not.

I'll wait on it.

Well, that's no good! I think the "Finder" is getting hosed in the theme switch via "ThemeChanger".

Re-run your Panther CD 1 and all is fixed!

Could you tell me what exactly you mean by "re-run your Panther CD 1"? I don't think you mean I should reinstall...

I just luckily got Themechanger back by using Recent Items under Apple menu, did an Aqua restore (supplied in Swiz's PowerMetalSS files) and got the Finder (and regular Panther Aqua) back.

Its switching fine on my QS and on my Gigabook so Im hoping that someone who is experiencing this issue could maybe give it a try with "Finder.rsrc" unchecked in ThemeChanger. I assume this may be the problem and am looking into it now.

Nope, with Finder.rsrc unchecked in Themechanger I still can't start the Finder using PowerMetal on this AlBook.

Solution

Ok, I believe we have it figured out now.
It seems that Themechanger is using part of an out of date Aqua backup on something during the theme change so all you need to do is:

1.Launch Themechanger and from the File menu choose "Remove Aqua Backup". Quit ThemeChanger.

2.Launch ThemeChanger, when it asks about an Aqua Backup, click Use Aqua Restore and select the Aqua Restore which came with Power Metal. Quit ThemeChanger (Just to be safe).

3.Launch ThemeChanger and apply Power Metal.

All should be fine. Let me know if this works you too.

Works fine for me. Good work swiz!

Hay when should we be getting the right safari skin for download?
Also has anyone found a skin applier app that works under Panther? It's a bit of a pain to put the files in your self.

Ive had Safaricon work in Panther... err well except for the fact that after using it my Autofill button is transparent .

I'll fix the Safari skin right now.

After ditching TC Aqua Restore on Swiz's note. It has worked wonderfully.

This may mean that new states were added to these widgets in Panther. I need to run out so I can't check it this second, but I'll check on it ASAP and fix it if that's the problem.
