This is certainly helpful to those who dont use the Update for 10.3 within ThemePark. Im surprised that this download is 20mb though.

Thanks for this, Butt O'Sigh, it's my favorite theme.

I wish there was a way to have it use my custom folders (installed via CandyBar) in Safari's bookmarks, the way it used to. But this is a minor niggle; it looks great!

Nice job, the only problem is, it uses a package installer and when I use the restore included with it, it didn't change anything back like it should. Not a huge ordeal since I used Max's restore he had included with Smoothstripes 4 package installer.

This may be a stupid question, but does this mean I can install dxb on 10.3? Is the 20 mb Menu Enhancer Download the theme?

I myself had this same problem with the restore included not working... I downloaded Max's restore and that seemed to put everything back... but my trash can reverts to the one from the theme one I place something in it...

Let me preface this post by noting that I'm a total theme newbie but a long time Mac user. I bought SS b/c I want to run dxb. I'd like to thank Butt O'Sigh for keeping the dxb theme going (I remember years ago seeing a screen shot of the drafting board theme running under OS 8 thought it was very cool, never got really interested in theming though til I stumbled back across dxb when reading about the launch of SS).

I want to run dxb on my Ti 550 (have not done this yet) but I decided to test it out on the iMac 400 that I have at home.

1) I experienced the same problem with the trashcan after testing out dxb. The iMac has 5 users and, although I created a new test user to install the theme, the trashcan problem extends to all users after running the uninstall. Why is this? How can I fix it? Can someone explain what "Max's restore" is and where it can be downloaded from?

2) The brushed metal apps (e.g. iTunes) look incongruous with dxb running. Will a future version of dxb for Panther fix this in some way?

3) I haven't played around with other SS themes, is dxb somehow different from other SS themes wrt the way it has been created? Is there anything that I should be aware (or beware) of when using this combination.

TIA

1) Max's restore can be found on his excellent site here. If you are having trouble with the trash icon, you could use Candybar to restore the original system icons.

2) Yeah, the iTunes thing is a long standing issue with themeing. iTunes and Quicktime Player are the main culprits. As I understand it, these applications do not make use of the system-wide resources that most applications use. They had the brushed look before it was used throughout the system, so they don't follow the "usual" method of drawing things on the screen. There is currently no workaround, except to use a theme like Mr. Tew's Titanium, which is as close to a uniform look throughout the user experience as is currently available to OS X users.

3) With SS, there are different formats that can be used. Many themes are released in the guiKit format, but SS can handle other formats as well - the titanium theme mentioned above is not the guiKit format, but rather .dlta format for use with ThemeChanger. The major difference is that using ThemeChanger and .dlta files actually changes the system files, which can inadvertently trash your system. (In reality, though, themes by well-known themers are pretty safe. I've never hosed my system with any theme I heard of through MacNN, though your mileage may vary). With SS, no system files are ever altered, so it should be safer. It does, however, require the use of Unsanity's Application Enhancer, which caused some problems for some people (although again, many people - including myself - have nothing but positive things to say about the APE framework). I think that dxb is currently released in the guiKit format, so you should be all set.

If you have any other questions, some very knowledgeable people (not me) hang out here, and you can learn a lot. Good luck!!

That was a pretty good explanation, except one thing is a little misleading. When you say, "the titanium theme mentioned above is not the guiKit format, but rather .dlta format for use with ThemeChanger. The major difference is that using ThemeChanger and .dlta files actually changes the system files, which can inadvertently trash your system.", it sounds like to use Titanium you're going to have to risk your system. In fact, as you almost said right before that Titanium can be used in ShapeShifter as well so you can get a uniform dark metal look without using ThemeChanger and changing actual System files.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Sorry Mr. Tew!! I didn't mean to malign your theme.

Yeah, what he said is completely correct, use the theme with SS and your system is unchanged and safe.

edit - Titanium 7 is definitely a great theme to try out.

Thanks for the informative replies and the links.

I'm hoping that, erm, Mr. O'Sigh (O'sigh-san?) will show up at some point and add in his 2 ¥.

Cheers.
