I just installed ShapeShifter on a couple of computer in my house and put on my favorite old Jaguar theme: Quicksilver.
I was terribly surprised though when I opened up Photoshop 7, and it crashed when I went to "Save As" for a document I had open. This was odd because I cannot remember once when Photoshop had ever crashed on me. So I reopened the app and went to File>Open and the program crashed.
I was still able to open up files in the recent documents list though.
Then I tried Illustrator and Image Ready and both programs had the exact same problems.
I reinstalled Photoshop 7 but still had the exact same problems!
What is going on? I can't imagine that this was caused by anything other than ShapeShifter.
--UPDATE--
I just disabled ShapeShifter and all is well with Photoshop now. In the words of the great Fred WIllard. "Wha happan?"

Hello,
I've tried with EYLO theme and it worked, but it did crash with Quicksilver theme or any other 10.2.x themes indeed...
So avoid using 10.2.x themes for now or try to convert it to a Panther theme if you can.
Regards

I guess I have no choice. But I just hate all the Panther themes out right now. Quicksilver is the only reason why I even downloaded ShapeShifter, which does claim to work with Jaguar themes "effortlessly". Bullshit.

You could exclude any apps that don't seem to work.
I've had Photoshop open a lot today, and no problems.

I've duplicated this bug and will attempt to have a fix in place for the next release. We didn't do much compatibility testing with themes created for OSes earlier than 10.2.6 since they're a fairly small percentage of those in use.
By the way, you should report bugs to the support link at http://unsanity.com/contacts.php so that it's not dependent on me just happening to come across your post.

I also sent you an email concerning this. The reason I posted it here was to get other user's inputs and to warn them.

I've been using SS from early beta with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator Imageready, After Effects, Golive and Indesign with no problems beyond some hard-coded text colors :/

It's caused by using themes designed for pre 10.2.6 OSes. There's some foulness afoot in "layo"s and "tdat"s that's affecting Carbon apps. Not a big deal to fix, just a slipup.

Would this perhaps be the reason why AOL Instant Messenger crashes with Watercolor and Milk?

Indeedely. It'll be fixed in the first bugfix release. In the meantime, my advice is to only use themes that were created for an OS later than 10.2.6 if you're running Panther. If you're on Jag, you're fine.
