Did a search thru the forum figuring this would've been covered before, but 'twas for naught.

Okay... between my lack of knowledge and lack of intelligence, I'm stumped. How can I change my System Prefs icon? Seems like it should be a straightforward copy 'n' paste job, but it rebukes my advances.

Have tried (without satisfaction) Candybar.
Suggestions?

change the ownership and use copy and paste.. or you can show package contents and replace the icon resource in there

In the 'Get Info' window, you will need to click on 'Ownership and Permissions' and 'Details'. Then unlock the little padlock and change the owner from 'System' to your user name. Then do the usual copy/paste routine.

Once the icon is changed, make System the owner again and lock the padlock.

BTW...CandyBar doesn't change System Preferences icon, but I guess you know that.

the only way ive gotten it to change is to control click on the app and change
/contents/resources/PrefApp.icns. you might also have to change the main icon the old fashioned way (get info). you may have to check version tracker for a little app called icon2icns. this is great for things like this. its free too make sure you have the caps right and the title exactly, and youre in!

this worked for me in jag and panther.

good luck.
