I've noticed since I installed ShapeShifter my system seems to freeze at various times while I'm in the middle of doing stuff... It almost reminds me of Mac OS 9 freezes...
I also have been seeing single windows freezing...
One that I see often is when a password or something, for instance like a password for an AirPort network, then the cursor turns into a beachball over that window and the only way to get it out of the way is to either reboot or force quit the systemuiserver (or whatever it's called).
It's possible these problems may be comming from something else, but the only major change I've made recently was installing SS...

I think it's entirely possible that some other app is causing your freezes.
Have you checked your crash logs?
I had some odd behavior that required me to reinstall my OS several times recently. I thought it was due to an APE module as that was the only change I made to my system each time.
However when I repaired permissions after installing each module, the problem went away. For me it didn't seem to be an APE related issue rather some installer/permission problem that was beyond my meager abilities to comprehend.
Try repairing permissions, using diskutility and rebooting.

How do you know it was SS?
I hear SS doesn't do Japanese too well.

I have a gut feeling this isn't it. My system last ran a permission repair on 11/19. I'm running it again now though...
As I said it's not always a system freeze, sometimes a random app will. But the random app freeze only occurs if it's the frontmost application which I am currently working in.

Nope, this is indeed ShapeShifter. Fortunately, it's fixed for 1.0.1 which will be out later this week.
Version 1.0 doesn't play nicely with Japanese.

SS has been doing some really strange stuff to my system also. Someone was using word on my computer and lost their whole paper when it crashed.
How do I know it was SS? Well I have not done anything else to my system and this stuff never used to happen. I disabled SS and installed a dlta theme again and guess what? No more crashes.
Big thumbs down on SS

Wow yeah same here, I was running word and some other apps when the computer just froze and the beach-ball started spinning forever, the time kept on going so I thought word was acting up but the finder restarted and I was unable to access anything, so I had to restart the computer.
I didn't lose all my paper but enough to piss me off. So I restored aqua and then dumped SS.

Does the macintosh word have the auto backup feature? I have word but I can't remember if it does. You really aut to use it if it does...
I still remember the time, when I employed in the computer lab at college, someone was writing a paper in word and I attempted to save it for her. I went a little fast with my clicking and I ended up closing the paper without saving... Unfortunately we didn't have the auto backup feature on. She didn't seem mad at all but I felt terrible... Sorry, guess I'm rambling off topic at this point...
