Any way to do this? I'd like to have big HD icons co-existing with smaller folder icons on the same desktop. But the Finder View Options settings seem like all or nothing.

Seem to remember some utility somewhere...

There was Icon Size Enabler by PIXTURE STUDIO. But it wont be workin in 10.3 as Apple removed the hidden feature.

This was a hidden feature of 10.2.x, and someone had written an APE module to activate it. Unfortunately, Apple remove that hidden feature in Panther
