Hi,

Since I've tried out some application that can change your Dock (forgot which one)
my application switcher picture is acting strange.
It seems to have backed up a bugged version of my Dock.
I hoped it would be solved with the 10.3.3 update, but alas..
Now I was wondering if someone could send me a new, crisp and bugfree Dock.app through the mail
(andyxlee-at-excite-dot-com).
or upload it to my iDisk using iDisk utility (member name andyeggs)
It's located at /System/Library/CoreServices

I would very grateful if someone could help me out.
Thanks in advance.
-andy

i have not done anything to my dock, other than use cocktail to enable the dock shadow. is this considering tampering with it?

if is not and you are happy with it. then look in the public folder of your idisk

thanks a bunch mdc!
I'll replace it and report back.
Using cocktail (I think) only modifies the plist file so I think it'll do fine.

Great!!
You seemed to have custom trash and finder icons,
which was no problem with candybar.
The only thing I did liked about my custom dock
was that the font size was smaller, but considering that I think that
that was the culprit to begin with, I can't complain..

Thanks again mdc.

I'm not sure what kind of program you are looking for but you can go here:
www.freerangemac.com/

check it out and let me know what you think... it's what I use.. this program kinda "skins" the dock, it has a bunch of options you can use to make a theme.

Transparent Dock was indeed the app that messed up my dock,
or more precisely that I let mess up my dock by backing up an already modded dock.
So a word to the wise let it back up your dock before modding.
(what I fnd most suprising however is that on the mac os install disk
there is no dock.app to be found)

Right on.. I did that. Thanks for the heads up though.. Sorry I did not carefully read your comments before.
It is interesting that there is no dock.app. Mine does not have it either (duh) I wonder why that is...

I'm sure the Dock.app is on there... Did you use Pacifist to look inside the install disc packages?

As long as you don't change the font size from 15, it will work fine. You can customize everything else at will.

Apple must've implemented the titles under the icons while cmnd-tabbing wierdly. They load a line of text with spaces between the names so they're centered with the icons, and draw a little highlight box around successive ones as you tab through. They should've loaded separate text fields for every icon, so the spacing wouldn't be messed up by a change in text size.

Meh. I guess they weren't expecting anyone to hack the dock

For what it's worth, while grabbing the Finder.app from my 10.2 CD, I noticed that the Dock.app is indeed on the first install disc (you just need to Search for it, I didn't find it while navigating through the hierarchy). I'm sure it's the same for 10.3.

FWIW - Using Pacifist navigate to:
/System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg/System/Library/CoreServices/
on Mac OS X Install Disc 1. There you will find Dock.app

No wonder I didn't see it, I didn't bother looking in any Library directories. Figures you'd find it.

two words, huh.

Seeing as it's fixed through the helpfulness of mdc,
and the simple relacement of the dock.app, I find that to
be a bit too drastic a measure for my ex-problem.

But thanks for sharing though.

[ps] I must be blind,
it is indeed @/System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg/System/Library/CoreServices/
[/ps]

Well seeing as the dock is located here - file:///System/Library/CoreServices/
and the files in the packages follow the same hierarchy (so they are installed in the proper places), I just put 2 and 2 together…
