Am I the only person who is not happy about the limitations in os-x font prefs, esp. for the finder and the system-wide default fonts ??

u can't change the fonts, only with haxies that doesn't work too good, bc they're haxies.

e.g. it's impossible to choose THIS font for listviews, THAT font for menu, etc... it's way too primitive IHMO. just have a look at linux/kde/gnome.
more flexible font handling... (don't moan about flexibility please)
besides that, os-x default font is looking blurry at small sizes,bc. of the font (band hinting) or the renderer (?) ..
i've seen better fonts in the latest mandrake linux 10.0, crisp & anti-aliased - apple lacks in this case IHMO.

see, i use an ibook 12", i use os9 most of the time. I choose "techno" as system-font and my own smithz-font for listviews. that makes my 12" screen very effective in displaying information (text, listviews, anything). in os x i hardly can get half of the information on the same screen due to the biggy big fonts and that's annoying. It's not acceptable that a "next-generation" os is way behind in this special case.

I've disabled aa for 12point or less in x, but the resulting bitmaps in x look crappy. and i can't change them too... it's the apple phenomenon - give the users no choice. harghnl...

very interested to hear your opinions,

andi
