I saw this Desktop Snapshot on ResExcellence and instantly wondered how this user got different headings into the menubar. Is this an easy hack I've never heard of?

Looks like language localization to me. Not a hack, just everything in the OS is in that language now. When you install OS X you can install other languages... I'm not sure if they're installed by default or not (I think they are, but I always turn it off).

Ummm ... which language do you think words like "windex" come from?

I know there's a theme activated, but I thought I knew all the other hacks that would work in OS X. Putting custom text in the menu bar is a new one to me.

Or just photoshop'ed after the grab was taken.
The word 'Finder' is of a different weight than
the rest of the text on the menubar.

... and that theme is not DSX - it's all a SWIZ I tell you ;)

It's quite easy to do with dev.tools, just edit Menus.nib in finders resources (/System/CoreServices/Finder/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Menus.nib) with interface builder.

Looks like he changed the text in some of the system files. Couldn't you change the menu text by editing the Menu.nib file in the Finder bundle? As for the about box text, I just looked through /System/Library, and there are little .strings files everywhere as well as some .nib files that seem to contain the info that was changed in this shot. Some of them are inside bundles- The about box/menus are in about three or four places:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Menus.nib

/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist
/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.bundle/English.lproj/SystemVersion.strings
/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/AboutThisMac.strings
/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow/Contents/REsources/English.lproj/AboutThisMac.nib

There are probably strings elsewhere as well. Of course, this is on an English system.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.

Haha, wibs. Anyways, ya the guy who puts up the screen shots does a really really bad job with getting things right I think. On many occasions, I have seen him put Plastic Pro or something instead of Pro Plastic (Kevin Macleod's mod of Brushed). This even happened to Kevin himself... Really a shame... They need an automated service like MacSnaps.

Ahh

It's been a while for me too, but I actually prefer having the app name bold, and Lucida Grande 13pt is great.
