So I couldn't find any info about this after searching everywhere. But I've seen swiz's and max's preview pics that feature windowed finder, so my question is how do I demetallize finder?

Unsanity has a beta version of Metallifizer for Panther available here

It is beta tho, and it has freaked up my Finder often. Here's what Unsanity says:

- I suggest adding Finder.app into the settings panel manually. it's in /System/Library/CoreServices/ directory.

- Other Carbon applications will probably not look good at all metallifized.

- The separator bar on the Finder windows will not be metal, but it also will not be cleared and will contain various 'tracks' when you drag it around. I didn't have enough time to find out how to defeat this, but if you're brave and have the abilities, the sources are in the SDK.

- If anything goes wrong, defaults delete com.unsanity.metallifizer

Have fun!!!

Sorry, Nate, are you just wanting to demetalize Finder, but NOT Safari or iPhoto or iChat?
If you're looking for a more or less systemwide demetalizer, you probably already know about Whiteout, right?

Another demetalizer is PantherBrushKiller, too.

overall great freeware page: link

Metallifizer works to some extent for me, but still has some major bugs. I use it to Metallifize everything. I think Metal windows just look so much better (when themed).

I have found that the finder will crash and restart if you try to do certain things. Using search or customize toolbar does it every time.

I can't wait for these bugs to be ironed out, 'cause I just love this little haxie.

nope ji eun, i wanted to not use the metal window at all, not just the texture.

well i tested the beta metallifizer and finder seems slower, so i'm going to wait for the official 1.3 to come out.

natey, if you own ShapeShifter, download the "Panter Aqua No Brushed" theme right here

It nicely replaces the brushed metal AND grey gradient with white, just like Whiteout does...
