Two things I noticed at wincustomize, first they are working on windowblinds of macosx and secondly an article (I can't find it now) on the state of theming.

The author was lamenting on the fact that most new themes have gotten boring and less innovative. They are just different flavors of msn, longhorn, xp and a great multidude of Apple themes. Its funny there a lot of people that slam apple but yet are so eager to copy the look and feel. I haven't been at wincustomize for a while and he's right, the themes lately are boring at best and most comments are so glowing is well sicking.

The themes being produce and announced here are quite original and innovative.

The second piece of news is that they are working on windowblinds for Macosx, well I have to say the theming world is going to be getting crowded. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing but it will be exciting to see how things turn out.

Bummer, I like their windowblinds for my pc.

anyways, I still think that theming on the pc has hit a creative dip in the road. I've stopped visiting the wincustomize site as regular as I used to and I let my object desktop subscription lapse.

Hey Mike, it's a question about your political choice. Please if you could share with me one positive thing Bush did for the "our" country? I'm voting straight republican all the way, cause I love it when rich people prosper and people vote with a blindfold on.

I'm not going to tell you why other then what your link has democracy, Its my choice please do not belittle it. Its a free country and not everyone shares the same opinion, that's one reason why this country is great. I will vote for the person of my choosing without any blindfolds on. I do not make fun of Kerry or his track record so please afford me the same.

Totally. I am asking you why you're voting for Bush. I am not for Kerry. Kerry does not have countless senseless murders on his track record. Kerry hasn't been the president of the United States for the last 4 years. This is a country where we have the right to vote for anybody we please, and express our opinion freely. I couldn't agree more.

Propaganda? Sorry, I'm not part of your classification machine. I'm honest and I seek out truth. Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Malcom X, Emma Goldman? Liberals? Because they don't conform to mass media, constantly travel the world seeking ways to fight sovereignty, think without boundaries? Ever checked out the people on those old Apple posters? Miles Davis, Jim Henson, Einstein...the whole gang, HARDCORE conservatives .

Back to the news at hand,

Part of my post was about a potential windowblinds port, and that was just an april fools joke.

But the other is still current. Do a lot of you guys who own/work on a pc use windowblinds. For all of the talk that windows offers easier theming (is does) why are there so many clones.

I played with it on VPC for a bit, it really sucks in comparison to SS though. It ties into the built-in XP themeing but just has a lot more flexibility, but I found it very flaky and overall annoying. It does do borders and fancy stuff like that, but I found that the borders were way to large most of the time and OS X's minimal GUI is much better for screen space and usability, and overall design (as a designer myself) I find good OS X themes much less cheesy looking because of the limitations.

Windowblinds isn't too crash hot . I prefer msstyles myself, and more themers support it.

Well said, thanks.

Anyways, my friends prefer MSStyles. I have no idea why. Possibly because more themers support it as mac15 said.

I thought MSstyles was more together also, but like I've said before, I do think the Mac OS X limitations work to an advantage over XP themes, (most of the time) now that we have SS. Sure there are a bunch of things we'd love to do but can't on OS X, but overall I think we are in good shape.

How do you use Msstyles and is it a winxp only feature.

You can use StyleXP by TGTSoft (www.tgtsoft.com), or use the many free patches -think there is still one on the TGTsoft site- to change a few bits of the uxtheme dll, and make it accept non MS signed MSStyles.

You can find many nice themes –not as good as some of the mac ones IMO, though many are ports, one way or another–, for example on KoL's site (www.studiotwentyeight.com).

Jeez. I can't believe I do still remember those things from my days on the dark side of computing Hope this helps.
