I just decided to switch from Proteus to another IM app, I found Fire and Adium, but Adium seems to be much better if you know how to customize everything so it looks good but I donīt know how to so I checked the homepage but found no themes Now where can I get some? The standard Adium Theme looks awful :/

And don't forget the venerable WebKit message views.
If there any graphic designers here that have an idea for a particularly cool one, feel free to post it here and I might be able to help you realize it into something real. I'm still trying to come up with a nice good original style. So far I've made an iChat emulator style and another style that emulates the standard adium message view... in case you want to see ones i've made. I go by "syn" on the adium message boards.

Have you updated your webkit themes for the message history addition? I have a really simple theme I made, but I'm not sure how to change the text alert status. Any ideas?

Not yet... I don't think there's any great demand for them so far, so it's not too urgent for me now. I'll have to think of how to integrate the feature with them.
As for the text alert status... are you referring to the "Gregg went away" messages? Do you want to change them based on what type of status it is?

Check out the official Smooth Operator theme. Essentially you duplicate your Content and NextContent html files and rename them Context and NextContext. Adium then uses these html files for the context/history messages.

What the heck is up with Adium anyway? On the homepage I see that 0.52 is the newest version but on the Xtras page are links to Adium 1.x and Adium 2.x but they link to the same page and then everybody is talking about webkit view but I canīt find anything about it in the 0.52 prefs? Could anyone please explain me all the, uhm ... weird stuff?

Ok, i'll try to field some of these. Adium 2 (0.52) is still an alpha, meaning that it still does not have all the featurs the authors want it to have. If you want to use a non alpha adium go with 1.6, if you want the latest and greatest features use adium 2 which is very stable and very cool.
Web Kit is a new message view that is based on html and css. Because of that you can change anything about it that you could a webpage...pretty cool. You can enable it by rightclicking on the app and selecting get info. Once in the get info window uncheck "standard message view" restart adium and you will see the smooth operator webkit view in all its glory. There are alot of web kits to download if you want to customize this, just head to the adium forums into the "boom...pretty" thread.
That should pretty much cover everything I think. Have fun.

Ah thank you! But why do they call it 0.52 instead of 2.52? That would be more logical in my opinion, anyway the webkit view looks great!

from the adium website:
We didn't feel comfortable calling this Adium 2.0, because to us 2.0 implies that it's finished. It's not finished. There is a whole lot more we have planned for this app, and honestly it's currently about halfway to where we'd like to see it. Changing our "show" name to Adium X allows us to use a version number we're more comfortable with . The application is still Adium, just our show name has changed.
Starting today we're moving to a weekly release schedule. Weekly releases will allow us to produce more reliable releases, and give us more time for perfecting and testing our changes. It also means that it will be easier for everyone to keep up to date. Starting with 0.50, we've added built in version checking, so Adium should let you know when a new release is available.
I am adium obsessed. glad your liking the webkit view.

Me to, I can't wait until they make it easy to change them. Like the new proteus.

The new Proteus was the reason why I wanted to switch to another IM app, I had only probs with Proteus after I tested the 4.0b even after delete all proteus prefs and use 3.06 again there were only probs, I didnīt show the names but it showed that some users where online or away, and now that I found Adium I donīt want to switch back, I loved the Message Center feature in Proteus but Adium has Tabs thatīs the same if not better
And the Webkit view looks so cool

There is one prob. with the Webkit view, sometimes, for example when I send a long url, I have a scrollbar in the message so that I can scroll to the right, a simple line break would be much better, is there a way to change that?
