Shapeshifter has stopped reading guikits on my machine, well i say stopped reading I can drag and drop onto the Shapeshifter Pref Pane and get new guikits to be read, but double clicking them doesnt work anymore. The guikit icon is no longer shown on the files either.
I have tried re-installing, throwing preferences, prebinding the computer and rebooting and running fsck none of these seem to help.
Due to shapeshifter not being an 'application', when prompted with the "there is no default application specified to open the document "blah blah.guikit" I cannot choose shapeshifer, leaving me stuck with just dragging and dropping.
Any help to cure this? have i missed a preference i can remove?

I have had this happen before after running System Optimizer but after re-installing SS all was well . I'm glad you still have some functionality .

I have the same problem (I perform Cocktail optimzing each day).
It's a little bit boring install each day SS (which solved the problem for me).
So I open SS pane and drag guikits in the themes list. Nothing more.

I've told Jason about this, the only solution for now is search your computer for a little app called 'ShapeShifter Proxy' . Launch this and things will be normal again. But it needs to be run everytime after you run things like cocktail

Okay, here's the quick-fix. Control-click the ShapeShifter.prefPane (in Library/PreferencePanes) and choose Show Package Contents. Navigate to Contents/Resources and double-click "ShapeShifter Proxy". That should restore the functionality.
Currently, the installer registers ShapeShifter Proxy as the double-click handler for themes. But, there have been enough problems with various apps unregistering it (Cocktail, for example), that I've been considering moving the registration to the prefpane instead of the installer. So, the double-clicking functionality would automatically be restored every time you launched the prefpane.
But, this seems a bit "Microsoftian" and heavy-handed to me, sorta like the war over mp3 and avi filename associations on Windows machines. So, any thoughts?
(Probably what I'll wind up doing is this: on prefpane launch, if any of the theme file extensions (guiKit, dlta, and theme) aren't registered, I'll register 'em.)
(And, FYI, the reason that this whole nastiness that "You, The User" should never see is actually necessary is because prefpane's aren't standard apps, so they can't use the standard, built-in double-click registration method. Hence, ShapeShifter Proxy.)
