I like the fact that Mac OS X 10.3.x has the ability to have labels, but I never use them as they are gaudy beyond measure. Is there a way to customize those colors? if so, can it be done easily?

the graphics are somewhere on your computer of course, but I'm not sure where. Using ThemePark you can change labels, though. They're in the Finder section. Then just save it as a theme and apply.

I would quite like to know how to change the colours without using 3rd party stuff. I mean it actually seems really odd to be able to change the names for the labels but not the colours! The first thing that catches your eye is the colour, and if it has an associated meaning for you, you are unlikely to need it spelled out - not to mention the fact that it's not an immediate thing getting the names for them anyway!

Anyway, the other thing that confuses me with labels is why in the contextual menu, the "purple" is a totally different colour from that which gets applied!

I hope Labels X is updated some day to be able to make custom colors... not sure how easy it would be to make it so the user is able to mix their own colors and have it generate image resources for the labels on the fly... buy hay, there's an idea for Unsanity to work with.

ShapeShifter can change them if the labels have been changed in the currently installed theme. BBX M is a good example of that.
