Happens that I can not 'select' the original icon to paste a new one, why?

You may not have the correct permissions, or it may be locked, or something random like that.
I don't really know.

Perhaps try using either Pixadex or FinderIconCM and then log out and in to see if it has changed. have got the same issues with StuffIt's folder.

edit: I think I got the question f'ed up. carry on.
