Hi all I just completed my first theme. It's a very simple theme designed to be usable at the minute there is only a Safari app skin as it's looking like I may not be able to work on it for a few weeks yet so ill release an update when I can.

Theres also afew elements that need a little work but again with time constraints and just wanting to get it out I got things to usable point and figured I'd see what people think before I spend more time on it.

I fixed the link you can get the file HERE and there is preview further down this thread.

A preview would be helpful, if it looks good, then a working download link would be nice too.

One should try one's own link before one posts a link in one's thread.

I managed to get it

I got it just after DaveV1.0 posted this thread, I would post pics but i cannot seem to get into my ftp area from my host (maybe coz im stupid)

Quick description:
Its light brown with a nasty green apple for the apple menuthat makes the apple menu look out of place and keylines around the buttons and scrolly doo-dats seem too harsh with no smoothness i'd expect from an OSX theme, with a bit of tweaking it could be an intersting theme, personally though im not keen on it. But its the guys first theme and at least he is trying (more then I can say about myself who has no motivation).

Im sure he will sort the link out as soon as he realizes whats happening
...ill get my coat

Okay I got the preview image uploaded but it won't let me do the dmg cause it's not a valid file type.

HytestA it may interest you to know that if you choose the graphite appearance you get a black apple menu and I agree on a lot of the comments you made, it was kinda rushed towards the end so i am gonna work on it. hopefully everyone else will be able to see and comment on it sometime this millenium.

duke! that is nice.

I like that java coloring and the green apple is nifty. Like a slice of lemon skin in the expresso.

the sliders are NICE! Love how they cut out of the vert. and horiz. lines
keep running with it.

I really like what you've got here, but a few suggestions:

[+] The green apple is a little too green, and doesn't match the other colors.
[+] The Finder buttons outline is a bit too dark.
[+] Same as above, but with the window widgets.
[+] Maybe make the window widgets little circles and indented?

Anyway, keep working on it

Thanks,
Oliver

Thanks I've gotta lot of work to do yet as I've been learning how to use photoshop on the fly (never even seen it running before I attemted this theme) and i've learnt a lot more since starting the theme but didn't want to go back and redo a lot of the elements now i've got it out there i can take on all suggestions and advice before redoing the bits im not happy with.

What do you think of the text colours i tried tons of variations but couldn't settle on any.

Not saying it's where you got your inspiration or anything, but it reminds me of something familiar:

I guess one could draw the similarities . . . I have used and abused the aforementioned theme. This one looks different enough to me to stand on its own.

Everyone to their opinion. Mine is that this one has its own merits.

I't actually started off a different color and then I realized that it was to similar in color to xi-softcandy so I just ended up picking set of random colors and using them.

Although I can see the similarities with champagne I think when I've completed 1.1 it will be more distinguishable.

The buttons/icons remind me of the "Smoke" theme for Firefox and Thunderbird by Aaron Spuler... Which makes me wonder if a themer out there who is familiar with the beautiful Firefox/TB theme Charamel might be capable of working with that designer for a nice OSX theme???

Agreed. Although I can't use the theme now (I lent my iBook to someone), from what I can tell from the preview, they look almost nothing alike.. Unless they have similarities in things that are not viewable in the preview..

I hate when people say themes look alike. I swear every theme gets compared with another, unless it is completely different than anything (as in, not having X's, -'s, and +'s for widgets, maybe they used 4's, ='s and !'s).

quandarry, you need to relax dude!!! take a chill pill or something, it's not an argument until you make it one...

i wasn't putting down DaveV1.0's work, as I enjoy the Champagne theme very much. I mentionned Champagne because I did find similarities between the two themes... I wasn't being sarcastic when I said that I didn't think he took his inspiration from Champagne. My intention was more of a friendly warning because of the similarities I saw there... I see em, you don't, BIG DEAL!!!

As DaveV1.0 said:

All I can say is to DaveV1.0 and happy to see you'll be giving your theme more personnality in later versions.

Good work and looking forward to many more of your creations!!!

Peace everyone

I decided to take this for a spin...

I like the scroll bars and the idea behind the widgets. The global tex needs to be a bit darker I think (scrollbar color)....the theme seems(to me) to be about contrast, sharpness living in an aqua footprint...that being said, I think the menu highlights need to have the same contrast. They seem to be a bit fuzzy now....I'd almost say recreate the menu-extras (boxed highlights) that Swiz did in GuiPod....did I mention I like the scrollbar???

Keep rocking on this one dude...cool idea for a first theme.

Actually although that was a crap joke it did remind me that I don't like the name all that much does anyone have any ideas for a name for the theme or should I keep it as is?

Nice gentle theme DaveV1.0 =)

http://www.resexcellence.com/themes/..._smoove_lg.jpg

Others may not agree... but if I were building this theme, I'd change all the black line borders on the buttons etc, to match the softer grey of the window border.
Then I would say: "excellent subtle classy theme"
well done
=)
