Everything is way cool so far.
Unreal Tournament 2004 seems faster to me too! So smooth in fact that I have bumped the resolution up to my max (1024x768), and it is as smooth as it was in 800x600 on 10.3.3. I haven't noted down any framerates so I can't confirm this but it is not my imagination.
Isn't it cool how every time OSX is updated it not only looks nicer, but runs faster and smoother as well. Windows tends to go in the opposite direction performance-wise according to my PC friends. Every time they update it (not often) you need a faster PC!

Seems so, though it bitches about the themes being designed for an earlier version of OS X.

I think something as important as an update to the operating system is relevant to every Mac user regardless of interest or application. It is true that such updates often cause problems for GUI apps such as ShapeShifter or Candybar, and threads like this are here for people to bring such problems to the fore - and if people feel there are problems or indeed benefits to be had from such an update that are outside the topic of GUI, then as far as I am concerned they are welcome. Why do you have to be such a troll?

Actually, ShapeShifter has never yet had a problem with an OS update. It's got a mechanism in place for if it ever does, but we've never yet needed to use it.

because this obviously is the GUI section of the forums. not the "OMG NEW UPDATES" section, that is the "Mac OS X" section. want info on the newest mac os x update? good for you. head over to the "mac os x" section of the forum.
i'm only a troll if you consider me a troll.
AND i might add: this thread has nothing to do with mac os x's GUI in any way, shape, or form. maybe if the topic was about the 10.3.4 update and how ShapeShifter won't apply themes or if the themes end up looking like crap, you could post it in this forum. but still, those threads end up in the "Software" section of the forums.

Just remember people. They have rules for a reason. And that is to make this forum run properly. If we made a new post about the update in each forum then that slows down the forum for a lot of people. So stop thinking of just yourself and respect the rules, no matter if you personal opinion gets in the way of that.
Like the cop told me, it doesn't matter if I pee'd in the street two blocks over, this time he saw me and this time I will get what's coming to me no matter what my personal opinion in the matter is.
So respect the rules because they are there for a reason and the reason may not be what you like but hey, you don't pay to run these forums you just use them.
This should have been in the other forum which it already is. That's all. Stop crying over spilled milk.

this was suppossed to be a disussion on the update as it pertains to or affects the gui community...but whiners have hijacked the thread so now it has become a totally useless thread for bashing and useless reasoning such as this thread will slow down the forums...

Ain't that the truth!
When I started this thread it was supposed to go something like:
Me: 10.3.4 is out! I just installed it now.
Dude 1: Kewl! Downloading now.
Dude 2: I'll wait until I know there are no probs with haxies I think.
Dude 3: Been using it for a couple of hours, SS works fine, no probs with CandyBar either by the way.
Dude 2: Awesome. Downloading now!
Dude 3: Expose effects seem to be drawing faster too! Well done Apple etc..
Once again a certain someone has turned it into a stupid argument.

this was made to be a post so that the original poster could see their own name on the main page and get a post count up. Not only is it not a discussion on the update as it pertains to or affects the gui community, it does not have anything in the main subject pertaining to the gui community. If you believe I am balling I am sorry. Read the rules of the forum. Obey them. Don't cry back to me when I just say rules are rules.
The first three posts had nothing at all to do with the gui community and ozzport had not posted anything about the gui community. He was making a general post just like it should have been made in the Mac OS X forum... if you forget what was said at the beginning of this post here you are...
Ozzpot Just checked Software Update and there it is! Running it right now.

nooon And Safari is now bumped up to 1.2.2 (v125.7). jej!

Maybe you should have posted more in your original post. Or are you going to let us know whenever you install anything? It really did not need to be posted here and you know that and we know that. If you don't want to admit that then oh well but just learn in the future that all forums don't need posts about everything and anything. That is why they make seperate forums for seperate discussions. All you would have had to do was make your original post longer like you were actually trying to be like hey dude I downloaded this and I am going to check out all the haxies and candybar and everything else and then you all know if there are any problems or if there are problems with yours let me know. You basically made a post that was like hey i downloaded this and that's that....Which then belongs either in the lounge or in the forum which the post is about.. This case the Mac OS X forum.. No matter if other people don't post there it belongs there and only there.. even if a discussion about gui comes up in it. It only belongs in the OS X forum and not the GUI forum.

I am right and you are wrong, just face it.
I will now end discussing why this is in the wrong forum.
I know the original poster will keep a thick skull and think they posted in the right forum even though that is not the case and I will allow others to try and back up the original posters thoughts and feelings on this.
I am not trying to gain anything, rules are rules.
Thanks bye

jeez, some people.....
What IS the problem??? You could just choose NOT to look in the thread OR just not post here/there. It's a matter of a word called... hmm let's see. C-H-O-I-C-E (remove the lines and go lowercase)
You have the option(ooh another word) to not look at something. and to not comment on something or everything you come across. No one is holding a gun to your head(or maybe some are??? you poor fellow!)
- The End. Or maybe not!? What say thee ?

It's an OS X UPDATE not a f*****g SNES emulator or Minsweeper clone. It is relevant in this forum as much as any other and for those of us that don't read every forum on this site it is a welcome heads up.
This update does, after all bring graphical enhancements such as new OpenGL drivers and potentially impacts any application that uses them. If it's not important then why does Panic release a new version of CandyBar every time the OS is updated?
The reason my initial post was so short is that it was meant as a heads up and not a detailed report into my own experiences so far. Let's face it, if I didn't start this thread someone else would have within the hour. Until all this bitching started the majority of replies to this thread were GUI related. Fireside (with a capital "F" ) always the troll, once again hijacked a perfectly relevant, serious and civil discussion, just to start this stupid argument. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't IM everybody in his "Troll" buddy list to alert them to his latest mutiny.
If you want to keep all these threads in such strictly categorised forums why don't you ask the Webmaster to start a "Stupid f*****g arguments about f**k all for people with nothing better to do or say".

That is wrong. Read the rules man. It really is that easy. It is not just a case of do not look in the thread. It is a case of know where to post so that the forums do not get cluttered and spammed with multiple and usless posts. The only reason people say anything in here is to let the person know for the future. Yes this post is already made and hopefully ozzport will understand that in the future not to make posts that belong in a different forum. We can only make this forum good if we work together to keep it gui related. No need to go off and talk about gaming and OS updates and monitors.. ETC ETC. really. Understand that it isn't any personal feelings of ours or we are against someone posting. It is the wrong forum and the poster needs to know that.

no need for personal attacks and belittling... you really must understand the true definition of Troll. Cause I believe that you do not and whenever someone has a different opinion than you, you call them a troll.. So please just go read through the rules again and understand that in the future OS X updates are not GUI related and do not belong in this forum no matter if the post will eventually talk about gui related information. It is not generally gui related one little bit and only belongs in the OS X Forum. You are becoming the troll.

TRUCE!
Let's just say everyone is entitled to their opinion as to whether this thread belongs here or not. If you don't think it should be here, don't read it. All this arguing is just pointless and adds up to nothing more than +1ing on everyone's part. I am sorry if I have offended or upset anyone by any posts I have made in the heat of this thread.
If anyone has any problems caused by the 10.3.4 update, please post them here.
That's it.

Rules are there to be broken. But I would say this much that there is a handful of these threads but repetition is in some cases good.

here is a story for you fireside.
back in jaguar days, there was a little app much like mighty mouse that changed cursors call beachball. well, i had it and ran it and loved it. then one day 10.2.4 came out (at least i thought it was 10.2.4) and when i restarted, i COULD SEE NOTHING ON MY MONITOR AT ALL. i had no idea what it was, so i had to suck it up and lose my entire hard drive.
now, having learned from that experience, i ALWAYS check in here before i update to a new os build. there are a lot of people who only check this forum, and with the inherent nature of osX themeing, i think a thread like this one is all too relevant. shortly- THIS HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THEMEING.
just chill, and if you dont agree with a thread, just DONT FREAKING CLICK ON IT.
thank you.

Well said d4nth3m4n.
There are hundreds of GUI apps that are suitable for discussion at this forum. Just some ones I have installed for example: ShapeShifter, MightyMouse, WindowShade X, Cleardock, Silk, Metallifizer, CandyBar, Backlight, Visage etc. Any of these apps could potentially have problems with the update which would no doubt result in the unfortunate user posting a plea of help or a heads up on this forum.
I intended this thread to be a vessel for any and all said problems, so that we would have just one thread rather than many, thus saving space, and saving people like fireside the apparently difficult and time-consuming task of reading the two or three words that a thread title is composed of.
Let's please keep everything cool here, yeah?

I thought this was funny coming from someone who posted three times in a row.
Anyway, the only gui related incident I had with 10.3.4 is that shapeshifter reset my theme to aqua. A quick switch back to classix 10k and all was well.

of COURSE you can now say that "oh i meant this thread to be about if there were problems." thats easy. but YOU DIDN'T MENTION ONE THING ABOUT THOSE APPS IN THE FIRST POST.
now maybe if you had posted "well ShapeShifter doesn't work, CandyBar crashes, and Silk doesn't switch fonts" it would have been okay. BUT YOU SAID, AND I QUOTE "Just checked Software Update and there it is! Running it right now."
NOTHING TO DO WITH GUI. AT ALL.
GOOD DAY SIR.

here is a story for you fireside.
back in jaguar days, there was a little app much like mighty mouse that changed cursors call beachball. well, i had it and ran it and loved it. then one day 10.2.4 came out (at least i thought it was 10.2.4) and when i restarted, i COULD SEE NOTHING ON MY MONITOR AT ALL. i had no idea what it was, so i had to suck it up and lose my entire hard drive.
now, having learned from that experience, i ALWAYS check in here before i update to a new os build. there are a lot of people who only check this forum, and with the inherent nature of osX themeing, i think a thread like this one is all too relevant. shortly- THIS HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THEMEING.
i'm sorry to hear about your story. but the thread starter mentioned nothing about theming.
just chill, and if you dont agree with a thread, just DONT FREAKING CLICK ON IT.
thank you.
so if i see someone break the rules i should just shut up about it? sorry, but no.
