Been working on a new variant for the changeling update, called Hades. Although I like what's happening in the menu and menu bars, I'm not so happy with the Finder Window path, back/forward, icon/list views etc.
Thinking of making it more like the finder bar icons to the left, or if anyone has other ideas etc.

Looking good.....the bevel on the menu bar is a little deep but I like where you're going.

Hades is the name of my computer, and the name I use in online gaming / LAN parties...
Still a sweet looking theme

The title bar is my favorite part, but something about some of the gradients I don't like... (the menu one the most) not sure what... maybe they just don't look like real material?

Bevels and gradients could be toned-down, but overall it looks really nice so far.

It looks really good but I think it needs a 1 pixel line at the bottom of the titlebar. Having the 2 gradients run straight into each other looks alright for the most part, but on the right side those 2 shades of gray right next to each other just looks funny.
I also think the inactive finder button looks a little funky too.

Looks pretty sweet. My only complaint is the menu selection -- it looks kind of... bad. I'd like to see it "spiced up".
Everything else is great, though.

Not every theme should be flat... I don't think it's a matter of toning it down.

that's looking great cube3 . can't wait to see what you do with this.
that said, the little usability gnome inside me is crying out that a titlebar has no place on a metal window .

guess I should stick with the black pearl then
This is very Alpha atm, so it's missing things like line accents and matching gradients I tend to add that kinda stuff on the second pass. With regards to the menu bar, it may look a bit iffy, but it is very usable, hard to explain until you actually try it, as I mouse over it, it feels like running my hand over plastic. No those are not my drugs.
I think this one will take a bit longer, as I will have to remake all the buttons and still have around 400 icons to complete.

I love being able to poke some graphics and make a metal window titlebar Wibs, the normal menu is too pansy. That said though, I might be doing something different for the surprise variant

well, a metal window titlebar in itself is not necessarily The Devil, the main problem (in my opinion) is when in a quick glance a metal window and an aqua window are indistinguishable. They're two different types of windows and they have different functionality because of that, so the user needs a visual cue damnit! Of course if the aqua windows have a different titlebar my little gnome will mutter a bit but for the most part be content.
Seriously, don't make metal and aqua look the same or I'll track you down and steal your lawn ornaments. And I know you're attached to those flamingos, so don't make me do it.

Assuming the text on the buttons is going to be white, you'll need to make the aqua windows very dark. Look at Xi-Tibook2...

Maybe you should just send me a beta/alpha and I can show you screenshots of what it looks like.
