I'm trying to work out something for the next set of icons:
is there an accurate way to convert a grey-scale into a transparency-scale?
I have tried using select/'colour range' set to 200 fuzziness. but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a better way?
Thanks
=)

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to take a grayscale image as use it as a transparency mask.

Copy the grayscale image. Switch to Quick Mask in the image you wish to mask. Paste. Switch out of Quick Mask. Apply a layer mask. The resulting layer mask will be defined by the grayscale image you'd pasted.

You could also use the grayscale image as an alpha channel. Channels -> Create new channel -> Paste the image into the alpha channel.

excellent... that's just what I wanted. Thanks.
Now I just have to get the script right that does it for me. =)
(Because the mask is smaller than the image... when pasting it, alignment needs adjusting.)
