I know this probably has a really simple solution, but I can't find it. I want the icons in the Finder sidebar to be smaller. Currently, they seem so ginormous compared to the text. I want them smaller to match the text size. I've seen other people's screenshots look like this, and I wanna do it too!

The Sidebar icons have a default (maximum) size. If the Finder window won't allow proper display (too many icons or too small window) they scale down proportionally. When they reach their minimum size, you'll get a sidebar scrollbar.
AFAIK you can't control their size yourself.

Find the sidebar resize dot (immediately at the right, halfway the height) and drag it all the way to the left. BTW, while dragging it slowly from left to right, you'll feel two snaps : the first is the sidebat icon width, and the second icon + label text.

Thanks for your help.
You'd think you'd be able to customize the sidebar like that. Maybe in Tiger.

Another way to make those icons smaller is just to add more shortcuts ... there's no such thing as too many shortcuts.
