ozzpot i tried sending you a pm, not sure if you received it, but wondering if you can please send your hacked itunes, the one where it has a black LCD screen with white spectrum analyzer, it was in the screenshot thread and don't have any idea how to modify this... i'd appreciate it greatly if you can send me it!

digitaljames thank you so much...
ok i went ahead and follow ozzpot's directions very carefully, i double checked to see what version my itunes is, and it is 4.7.1...
But I cannot find the 1st or last values at all... it found the 2nd value ok...
Please help...
Find: D6DBBF Replace with: 3E3E3E (This is the LCD spectrum analyser Background)
Find: 161614 Replace with: B1B1AD (This are the active "blip" things)
Find: C4C8B0 Replace with: 606058 (This are the inactive "blip" things)
HexEdit was only able to find 161614... not sure what I'm doing wrong...

Well, I don't have the theme installed, so it didn't quite come out correctly (the "endcaps" of the LCD weren't themed, but the rectangular interior was themed). Near as I could tell, the second and third "D6D6DBDBBFBF" instances controlled the LCD background, so they needed to be replaced with "3E3E3E3E3E3E" each. I couldn't figure out what the first and fourth "D6D6DBDBBFBF" instances did. Both instances of "141414141616" needed to be replaced since they controlled the active blip and the pixels around the active blip respectively. The last one was easy to replace since there was only one instance of it. Here's what the hex looked like when I got my best results:
Anyway, like I said, I presume that mine didn't come out correctly since the "endcaps" of the LCD were themed elsewhere by the theme itself, but if anyone happens to know how to theme those endcaps manually I'd like to know. I couldn't find any more occurrences of "D6D6DBDBBFBF" in the hex code (since it seemed to be the color of the LCD) so I'm clueless...
Oh, and one other note: when doing your searches for the hex to replace, make sure you select the "Hex" option in the Find window so that you are searching for Hex and not ASCII.

The "endcaps" you speak of are not controlled by these codes at all. They are an image, which is, if you don't have a theme installed, the standard beige affair. Some themes such as AlBook replace this image with a darker one. The ONLY part of the LCD that a theme cannot change is the spectrum analyser panel. This is why we must change it like this.
As for those having trouble with the codes, you shouldn't even be looking through them. You only use the "Find and Replace" feature:
Make sure the window of codes is scrolled right to the top (The find feature only starts looking at the topmost visible line of code each time).
Go to "Find" or whatever it is called. Put in the code you want to change in the "Find" box.
Put the code you want to change it to in the "Replace with" box. Hit OK.
Again, make sure the window is scrolled to the top again.
Do "Find and Replace" for the next code you want to change.
Keep doing this until all the codes are changed. Save, and then start up iTunes.
All should be well.
P.S. I didn't receive any PM by the way - all my boxes are empty.

i dont have an "OK" option that you speak of. under the two spaces (Find / Replace) i have four buttons:
Replace
Replace All
Find Previous
Find Next (blinking)
when i enter the two numbers and hit Replace, it takes me to the very top code and replaces that. in fact it does that for each code i enter. Saving it like that renders the file un usable. if i dont click Replace and click Find Next like it seems to be telling me to do by flashing, the screen with the codes blinks and apparently does nothing because upon close it doesnt ask me if i want to save changes and the only save option available in the menu is "Save As" hinting that nothing has been changed.

Okay, firstly, you're right about the button. You should use the "Replace All" button.
Secondly, are you using the right application? It should be HexEdit. When I first did this when it was fashionable before back in the Jaguar days, I misread the instructions on how to do it and got an application called "HexEditor" that did it all wrong, rendering the file unusable like you did.
If you are following my instructions as posted over at the XiAP forums, are using the right app, and have iTunes 4.7.1, it should be a no-brainer. If not, I really really do not understand what is going wrong here.
Sorry, I wish I could help more.

I have the correct tools and app but still a nada, replaced all the hex value and saved. Itunes on dock is bouncing like theres no tomorrow but it just wont run or even show it self on the desktop.
iTunes: 4.7.1 (30) Upgraded from 4.7
HexEdit: 1.91
Do i need a fresh install of iTunes?

Okay guys, here's the deal. It turns out I am rather red faced about this. Someone worked out the problem over at XiAP where I posted the tutorial.
The problem is, I posted 8-bit values instead of 16-bit values, meaning I wrote down for example 161614 instead of 161616161414. This means that some codes were findable, but only because the middle part of the code is the same. Anyway, I don't want to complicate this. Basically, I f**ked up. The codes are 16-bit (12 digits). Go back to the tutorial at XiAP, where I have corrected my post. Should work okay now.
A thousand apologies!
Here is that tutorial

getting closer i feel. i'm to the point where once i've saved it iTunes will at least bounce in the dock...over and over and over...
maybe this would be easier if someone who's actually seen this work would just put the file up for download.

I would suggest you manually key in the modified value and not with the Find and Replace dialog. If you replace it with Find and Replae dialog, it will replace it with ASCII instead of HEX value.
Atlas, i got it working. Yay for me.
