Is there any way to change the value of the grey that Dashboard uses as a background over open windows? I'd like to make it a little darker.

Yeah, I'm interested in doing that too, it isn't dark enough which makes it difficult to view when you have a lot of widgets up, or a busy desktop (windows open, etc.)

Unfortunately the hint posted was for the shelf. I'll check back there to see if anyone responds about changing the Dashboard backgorund itself.
