im not sure if this problem is related to shapeshifter or the milk theme... but everytime i apply it, it works fine, and all of a sudden later the menu bar where all the date/time, and icons are on the top left defaults back to aqua, while the rest of the bar stays themed... is this a bug in the milk theme or is it a shapeshifter theme? this happens on my powerbook also... and my friend also has the same problem... any ideas?

Did you log out after applying the theme? Are you using a 10.4 theme on 10.3.9?

Next time it happens, take a look at /Applications/Utilities/Console and see whether anything interesting was logged at the very bottom of the Console listing. Anything about ShapeShifter or SystemUIServer or any menu extra would be "interesting".

i did a search in the console searchfield and typed shapeshifter and this is what it found:

SystemUIServer[234]: [Haxies Crash Guard] Looks like this application has crashed before, not loading haxie com.unsanity.shapeshifter for it.

This only happens when i reboot, i mean it changes the theme fine, but ater the menu extras load, it defaults back to aqua (just the menu extras part of the finder bar)

everything else is intact, i have to reapply the theme in order to fix it temporarily until my next reboot... not sure why this is happening, i repaired permissions already... dunno what else it can be...

Something is making your SystemUIServer (the process that controls the menu extras) crash. It probably happens regardless of whether ShapeShifter is applied, but you don't notice it if it isn't. Historically, this tends to be 3rd party menu extras that use "MenuCracker" to get into the SystemUIServer.

Email me. My name is Jason, and it's at the company that makes ShapeShifter.

Did anyone ever find a fix for this? Or is is coming in SS 2.1.1 ?

I think the problem I am having is the same thing you are describing. When I apply a theme It keeps the clock, spotlight, and CPU MenuMeter set in aqua background, but the airport status thing correctly themes without a problem. I tried disableing the 3rd party CPU thing and re-applying the theme and that didn't help. Any ideas?

BTW, it is only on some themes that it screws up... A quick run through the themes i have makes me think its screwing up themes that don't use "enable more menu customization"... but i could be wrong.

[edit] on a side note, SS is not doing icons very well in Tiger either... it only themed the trash can for some reason

My favorite theme for a long time now has been Watercolor but thee menu bar issues make it unusable. I've switched recently to Samui (nice theme BTW!) but as the other have said there are items that are ugly white holes (bluetooth, volume, clock, searchlight). I have also done the log-out, restart thing to no avail. Not a huge thing but sort of defeating the purpose. Smeger? Anything on this?

I'm hoping that we have a ShapeShifter upgrade real soon because ClearDock is als a bit of a puzzle. Every restart kicks me back to a dock with a background and the wrong color pointers; Tiger is not playing nice with Unsanity apps me thinks...

Does SS 2.1.1 fix this? anyone? Am I the only one with this problem? Its really annoying... Tiger's GUI is getting really old. I need my theme fix.

I'm still having the same menubar issues though the dock problems have cleared up nicely. On the other hand, Jason/Smeger has sent me a couple of emails (feelin' the love here!) and I still got faith this will get fixed soon. In the meantime I'm using Samui and trying hard to not look too closely at the &*^% menubar.

NSStatusItem ones are more "polite", but less functional. Those are the ones that are showing the issue. I'm surprised this didn't come up during testing - NSStatusItem ones are rare, but not that rare.

Working on a fix. Short-term workaround: add the offending menu extra to SS's Exclude List and relaunch it.

You might have to use the Activity Viewer (/Applications/Utilities/Activity Viewer) to find the owning application as it might not appear in the dock. If the application is located inside the main application bundle, you'll have to show the package contents for the application in the finder and drag it to the exclude list.
Tada!
